School Run Taxi Driver – Felixstowe

Role: School Run / Home-to-School Taxi Driver
Hours: Part-time, predominantly mornings and afternoons during school term time
Vehicle: Own licensed vehicle required
About the Role
We are looking for a reliable, professional and friendly School Run Taxi Driver to provide safe and dependable home-to-school transport for children and young people in and around the Felixstowe area.
The role will primarily involve collecting pupils from their home address, transporting them safely to school or an education provision, and completing the return journey at the end of the school day.
As you will be transporting children and potentially young people with additional needs, we are looking for someone who is patient, punctual and able to provide a calm and reassuring environment throughout each journey.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must:
- Hold a current and appropriate East Suffolk Council driver licence for the work being undertaken.
- Have access to their own suitable vehicle, which must also be appropriately licensed by East Suffolk Council.
- Hold a full UK driving licence.
- Have appropriate motor insurance covering the work being undertaken.
- Have a good driving record and demonstrate a safe and responsible approach to driving.
- Be reliable and punctual, with particular importance placed on consistent attendance during term time.
- Be professional and courteous when communicating with children, parents/carers, schools and other professionals.
- Be willing to undertake the necessary safeguarding and background checks required for working with children and young people.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Completing scheduled morning and afternoon school runs.
- Collecting pupils from agreed addresses at the designated time.
- Ensuring pupils are transported safely and comfortably.
- Ensuring appropriate seat belts and any required safety equipment are used.
- Maintaining professional boundaries when working with children and families.
- Communicating promptly regarding delays, incidents or concerns.
- Following safeguarding procedures and reporting any concerns appropriately.
- Maintaining their vehicle in a clean, safe and presentable condition.
- Ensuring all driver, vehicle, insurance and licensing documentation remains current and valid.
- Providing a consistent and positive experience for the children and young people being transported.
The Person We're Looking For
This role would suit someone who enjoys driving and working with children and young people and who is looking for regular, term-time work.
Previous experience in school transport, taxi/private hire driving, SEND transport, education or working with children would be beneficial, although the right attitude, reliability and professionalism are equally important.
Some of the young people we support may have SEND, SEMH or additional behavioural and emotional needs, so applicants should be patient, understanding and confident in maintaining a calm environment.
Working Pattern
The majority of work will take place Monday to Friday during school term time, with journeys typically taking place:
Morning: Home to school/education provision
Afternoon: School/education provision to home
Exact hours and routes will depend upon the school runs allocated.
There may also be opportunities for additional transport work during the school day where available.
Important – Licensing & Vehicle Requirements
Please note that this is an own-vehicle driving position.
Applicants must already have, or meet the required licensing arrangements for:

✓ An appropriately licensed vehicle with East Suffolk Council
✓ Suitable insurance for the work undertaken
Evidence of all relevant licences, insurance and vehicle documentation will be required before commencing work.
