Job Title: QA Technologist (Maternity cover)
Location: South Wales
Scope of the Role:
A resilient and motivated candidate with relevant product development, quality, technical, compliance, or manufacturing experience, looking to take the next step in a technical career. You will support the technical department in delivering safe, legal, and responsibly sourced consumer goods within a fast-paced buying office. Working across categories including seasonal décor and paper-based celebration products, you'll help ensure products meet regulatory and sustainability requirements for major national supermarkets and high street brands. Experience in risk assessment, specifying testing requirements across multiple product categories, and working with major retailers is desirable. This is a fast-paced role requiring a high level of ownership and autonomy.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure products are safe, legal, and responsibly sourced, escalating issues where required.
- Create and maintain technical files, including test reports, specifications, safety documentation, and conformity declarations.
- Review and approve artwork and packaging to ensure legal and accurate labelling.
- Support product approvals, supplier onboarding, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Minimise risk and cost across the supply chain through effective due diligence.
- Work with buying teams to brief compliance testing and support new business tenders.
- Complete customer technical documentation and review product specifications, MSDS, and Bills of Substance.
- Support timber compliance (EUDR/UKTR), FSC requirements, and departmental procedures.
- Monitor and report sustainability measures, helping drive environmental improvements and reduce the use of problematic materials.
Key Skills and Attributes:
- Technologist or experienced Assistant Technologist looking to progress their career.
- Strong team player with excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Proficient IT skills, with experience of data management and customer portals preferred.
- Able to manage projects, work across multifunctional teams, and adapt to change.
- Flexible, organised, and capable of working independently.
- Knowledge of toy safety, GPSR, REACH, timber regulations, packaging waste, and EN71 standards is advantageous.
- Familiarity with SMETA/BSCI audits and chemical compliance (including REACH/SVHC) is desirable.
