Full job description

Bookkeeper / Accounts Assistant – Xero

Immediate start available

We are looking for a practical, organised Bookkeeper / Accounts Assistant to join our team and look after the day-to-day finance function using Xero.

This is a hands-on bookkeeping role, ideal for someone who has recently passed AAT, is part-qualified, or has solid bookkeeping experience and wants a stable role where they can take ownership of the basics. This is not a senior finance manager position, but accuracy, reliability and common sense are essential.

Key responsibilities

Managing daily bookkeeping in Xero
Reconciling bank accounts, PayPal and other payment platforms
Processing supplier invoices and customer payments
Keeping purchase ledger and sales ledger up to date
Preparing basic cashflow reports
Assisting with weekly and monthly payment planning
Running payroll
Preparing VAT returns
Keeping financial records organised and up to date
Supporting the directors with basic finance reporting
Helping keep aged payables and aged receivables under control

What we are looking for

AAT qualified, recently qualified, part-qualified, or equivalent bookkeeping experience
Confident using Xero
Experience with payroll and VAT
Good Excel or spreadsheet skills
Strong attention to detail
Able to work independently and keep things moving
Honest, reliable and organised
Comfortable working in a busy small business environment
Able to start immediately or at short notice

What we do not need

We are not looking for an over-senior accountant or finance director. We need someone who is happy taking care of the day-to-day books properly, keeping everything up to date and helping us stay on top of cashflow, VAT, payroll and supplier payments.
