Full job description

We are seeking a creative and organised Communications & Engagement Officer to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys delivering engaging communications, managing digital content and stakeholder engagement, supporting events and publications, and maintaining systems that strengthen collaboration and the visibility of our work.

The position is set to commence asap and will be from 20-37.5 hours per week for 12 weeks (with a pay rate of £19.67 per hour + holiday pay ) .

Main Duties

External and internal communications and engagement: 60%

External communication and engagement:

Curate and send RLRH’s Community Newsletter to 1500+ RLRH affiliates, compiling programmatic updates, relevant opportunities, publications, and affiliate spotlights on a fortnightly basis.
Curate and send a monthly external newsletter to RLRH partners.
Develop and maintain a database of opportunities, events, and external engagements that enrich affiliates’ academic and professional journeys.
Provide support to RLRH’s Livelihoods Programme Officer to identify individuals in accessing opportunities that are suited to their profiles.
Lead management of RLRH’s website and social media channels, curating content to increase external visibility and engagement. Coordinate a live content calendar, with input from the wider RLRH team.
Provide training to RLRH programme focal points to prepare relevant social media posts communicating programme activities and achievements.
Provide support to RLRH’s relevant programmatic focal points (Academic, Research, Livelihoods) to design and develop initiatives that strengthen community among RLRH’s growing cohort of students and researchers. Encourage continuous engagement beyond programme life cycles, where everyone feels supported and connected.
Provide support in organisation of in person and virtual events.
Contribute to recruitment campaigns for various RLRH programmes.
Maintain RLRH’s generic information inbox, responding to queries from (prospective) affiliates and signposting resources from relevant RLRH programmes.

Internal communication:

Curate and send RLRH monthly staff newsletter, ensuring colleagues across different programmes and operations are up to date on major organisational and programmatic updates.
Maintain an active directory of internal resources, including guidelines and templates .
Develop resources for RLRH colleagues active in external engagements for different audiences, such as presentation slides and outreach materials.

Publications, dissemination, and branding: 25%

Develop and publish externally facing annual reports, factsheets, and other materials communicating RLRH’s work and impact to partners.
Provide support with copy-editing and dissemination activities.
Contribute to development of a branding toolkit for internal and external communication needs, such as templates for documents, flyers, and advertisement materials.
Support RLRH team members to implement RLRH branding guidelines, streamlining branding across the organisation.

Database management: 15%

Maintain RLRH's master database of active affiliates, and provide support in migrating data to a new CRM platform in coordination with Operations & Strategy and MEL teams.
Curate and maintain an RLRH mailing list, and provide support to maintain additional lists of stakeholders for external communications and dissemination activities.

Selection Criteria:

Essential

A master’s degree or equivalent in international development, refugee/migration studies, communications, or in a highly relevant field in the Social Sciences or Humanities.
Familiarity with displacement-related topics and 2+ years of prior experience working directly with displaced people.
Experience in project coordination and management, with excellent organisational skills and timeline management.
Mastery of digital media management and growth (e.g. website development and social media engagement).
Prior experience in videography and creating multimedia content.
Ability to travel internationally up to 20% of time.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with experience working across diverse teams.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, analysis, and report writing.
Fluency in written and spoken English, with excellent editing skills.
Excellent cultural competency and cultural humility.
Ability to work independently, prioritise own workload, and work flexibly as part of a team.

Desirable

Familiarity with Airtable or other CRM platforms.
Prior experience with design tools such as Canva and InDesign.
Familiarity with higher education work environments.
