Part-Time Social Media, Content & Graphic Design Assistant

The Scottish Academy of Swimming is looking for a creative and confident Social Media, Content & Graphic Design Assistant to help develop our online presence and promote our swimming lessons, team and wider academy activities.
This is a varied, hands-on position for someone who understands social media trends, enjoys creating engaging short-form content and has strong graphic design, photography and video-production skills.
Location and working arrangements
This is an Aberdeen-based employed position and is not available on a freelance, self-employed, agency or consultancy basis.
The successful candidate must be based in, or able to travel regularly throughout, Aberdeen. Physical attendance is essential because the role involves filming and photographing swimming lessons, swimmers, team members, events and other academy activities at our local venues.
The successful candidate will also be required to attend our Head Office at Ardoe House Hotel, Aberdeen, at least once per week.
The role will normally involve 5–10 hours per week, with some flexibility required depending on lesson schedules, campaigns and events. Some evening or weekend work may occasionally be required to capture content during swimming lessons or academy events.
About the role
You will plan, create and publish engaging content across TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, showcasing our swimming programmes, instructors, swimmers and academy community.
Content will include promotional material for our lessons, social media trends involving our team and swimmers, photography and video content, and branded graphics for digital and printed materials.
You will work closely with our team to ensure that content is engaging, professional, consistent with our brand and appropriate for swimmers and families.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and create content for TikTok, Instagram and Facebook.
- Produce short-form videos, reels, stories, posts and promotional campaigns.
- Identify suitable social media trends and adapt them creatively for the Scottish Academy of Swimming.
- Work with our team and swimmers to film appropriate trend-based and promotional content.
- Attend swimming lessons, events and academy activities to capture photographs and videos.
- Film and edit high-quality short-form video content.
- Take and edit photographs for social media, web and promotional use.
- Create branded graphics for social media, websites, email campaigns and digital advertising.
- Design printed materials, including posters, flyers, leaflets and promotional signage.
- Promote swimming lessons, enrolment opportunities, events and academy activities.
- Maintain a consistent visual identity and tone across all content.
- Develop and manage a regular content calendar.
- Schedule and publish content across our social media platforms.
- Monitor content performance and suggest ways to improve engagement, reach and enquiries.
- Ensure that all content involving children and swimmers follows our safeguarding, consent and data-protection procedures.
About you
We are looking for someone who:
- Is based in Aberdeen or can reliably travel throughout Aberdeen for filming and office attendance.
- Has experience creating content for TikTok, Instagram and Facebook.
- Understands current social media trends and how to adapt them appropriately for a professional organisation.
- Is confident creating engaging short-form video content.
- Has strong graphic design skills.
- Is confident using software such as Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud or similar design platforms.
- Has photography, filming and video-editing experience.
- Can produce graphics suitable for both digital and professional print use.
- Has strong attention to detail and a good understanding of branding.
- Is organised and able to plan and manage content independently.
- Is comfortable directing and working with staff, swimmers and families during content creation.
- Can communicate confidently and contribute creative ideas.
- Is reliable, professional and able to represent the Scottish Academy of Swimming appropriately.
- Is willing to work flexibly around swimming lesson schedules and academy events.
Experience within swimming, sport, leisure, education or children’s activities would be beneficial but is not essential.
Applicants should provide examples of their previous social media, photography, video and graphic design work.
Safeguarding
This role involves attending environments where children and young people participate in swimming lessons. The successful candidate must follow all Scottish Academy of Swimming safeguarding, photography, filming, consent and data-protection procedures.
The appointment will be subject to appropriate pre-employment checks, including a Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme check where required for the duties of the role.
