The Technical Support Officer (Consignment and Flasking) is responsible for ensuring compliance with respect to consignment and flasking operations within UKNNL – inc Workington Lab and Sellafield. This position will predominantly but not exclusively be to supervise all dangerous goods consignments with respect to transport (both on and off the site) engaging with a fleet of different customers and to keep an auditable record of all movements. In addition to the Active Handling Facility (AHF) flasking demands, the role also includes the management and operation of Intermediate level waste (ILW) generated with in the facility, ensuring that AHF continue to compliantly consign ILW to down stream plant to allow the smooth and continued operation of the facility. They will be responsible for ensuring UKNNL’s compliance with a number of requirements and regulations governing the nuclear industry and its relevant Site Licence Conditions, principally in relation to waste management (solid, aerial and liquid). They will act as the primary appointee for a number of major and minor key roles.
Main Responsibilities for Technical Support Officer:

Provide support for all issues relating to ILW waste consignments to Sellafield.

Support the management of Waste Liabilities costings of the laboratories.

SQEP in compliance roles including, but not exclusively, Dangerous Goods Dispatch Officer (DGDO), Radioactive Movement Consigner (RMC) (AHF), ILW Coordinator, COSHH Coordinator, Liquid Effluent Coordinator (LEC).

Check compliance of Safe Systems of Work procedures and report/initiate any necessary remedial action for their areas of responsibility.

Responsible for the organisation and compliance of all dangerous goods transport consignments on and off site.

External Dangerous goods training qualifications to be obtained for Classes 1-9 in Road, Air and Sea.

Point of contact for Customer work, working along side the members of both the flasking and consignment and Waste and environmental team.

Carry out audits, observations and inspections to monitor and effect remedial action where necessary.

Support both the TSM (consignment and flasking) and TSM (waste and environment) to ensure compliance with respect to both AHF flask and ILW operations.
Essential Criteria for Technical Support Officer:

Experience of safe systems of work and associated documentation.

Experience of working in an industrial environment.
-
Be able to work with a team showing strong communication and organisation skills.

Experience in Dangerous goods of any class.

Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Excellent organisational and coordination skills.
-
Minimum of C in GCSE’s in English, Maths and Science.

Ability to achieve DV Clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial an criminal records checks plus 10 years’ worth of UK residency).
Desirable Criteria for Technical Support Officer:

Experience of the nuclear industry.

Knowledge of industrial waste issues and solutions.

Qualifications passed or present in road, sea or air regulations with respect to dangerous goods.

A good understanding of UKNNL operations on the Sellafield Site.

HND or equivalent in a Science related subject.

Experience in Sellafield limited SLP processes and management system.
-
NEBOSH General Certificate in Environmental Management or Health and Safety.
