PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £79,500 to £90,569

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Reporting to the Head of Production or Deputy Head of Production, the Production Executive will provide strategic production leadership across a portfolio of NHU productions, supporting projects from development through to final delivery. Working closely with production teams, editorial colleagues, clients and key stakeholders, they will ensure productions are delivered efficiently, safely, compliantly and to the highest editorial standards.
Alongside their production responsibilities, the Production Executive will contribute to the operational leadership of the department, leading and supporting strategic projects, driving continuous improvement and helping to develop production practices that enable the successful delivery of the NHU's slate. They will work collaboratively with the NHU Leadership Team to foster a strong, inclusive and high-performing culture, supporting the development of people, promoting collaboration across teams and helping to ensure the NHU remains a positive, innovative and supportive place to work.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
The role requires a collaborative leader with extensive knowledge of production, strong production management expertise and the ability to balance creative ambition with operational delivery. Experience of commissioning processes, co-productions and complex funding models would be advantageous, as would a commitment to driving continuous improvement and supporting the development of production teams. Experience of working on Natural History productions is preferred.
The successful candidate will be an experienced Production Executive or Line Producer with a proven track record of delivering complex productions from development through to delivery. They will have strong client management experience, building trusted relationships with key stakeholders. They will be confident in identifying and managing production risks, escalating issues where appropriate, and supporting production teams to navigate challenges throughout the production lifecycle.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Lead strategic production management across a portfolio of productions, ensuring schedules, budgets and resources support successful delivery.
- Oversee production approval and commissioning processes, ensuring editorial ambitions align with operational and financial viability.
- Manage portfolio financial performance, including approving, monitoring and adjusting budgets and assessing new content opportunities.
- Build, develop and motivate diverse production management teams, driving continuous improvement and organisational change.
- Influence and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders, suppliers and partners while maintaining compliance, risk and sustainability standards.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
Extensive production management experience across multiple productions, genres or portfolios.
Strong project, financial and operational management skills, with experience managing complex budgets and resources, alongside strong financial reporting skills and the ability to provide clear, accurate and timely financial information to relevant stakeholders to support accounting and reporting cycles
Thorough knowledge of commissioning processes, production systems, health and safety, and regulatory requirements.
Proven ability to lead, develop and influence teams and stakeholders in complex environments.
Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement.
Experience managing co-productions or complex rights and funding models.
Experience in building trusted relationships with key stakeholders internally & externally. Providing excellent client management while ensuring compliance, effective risk management and sustainability standards.
A desire to contribute to an inclusive, collaborative and healthy working culture within the department
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
Experience implementing new production systems or technologies.
Knowledge of audience trends and multi-platform content strategies.
Experience contributing to policy development and operational strategy.
Experience delivering sustainability initiatives within production environments.
Knowledge of UK Tax credit criteria/application process and managing productions through SPVs
Good working knowledge of ECAT and/or PMI cost manager systems
Experience of working with BLA colleagues on complex contracts and/or commissioning agreements
