Web Designer & UI/UX Specialist
Job Overview
We are looking for a creative and technically capable Web Designer & UI/UX Specialist to take responsibility for the design, user experience, and ongoing development of our online presence.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of UI/UX design, e-commerce, and modern web design, with the ability to create websites and digital experiences that are visually appealing, intuitive, engaging, and easy to use.
You will play a key role in shaping how customers interact with our business online. This will include designing and improving website layouts, navigation, product pages, landing pages, and customer journeys while using user behaviour, analytics, and feedback to continually improve the overall experience.
The role will also involve supporting the wider digital growth of the business through activities such as PPC, email marketing, social media, and SEO, giving the successful candidate the opportunity to contribute beyond the website itself.
We are looking for someone who is proactive, creative, and commercially minded, with the ability to identify opportunities for improvement and turn ideas into practical solutions that improve both the customer experience and performance of the website.
Duties & Responsibilities
UI/UX & Web Design
- Design and develop modern, professional, and visually engaging website interfaces with a strong focus on UI/UX and user experience.
- Take ownership of the visual appearance, usability, and overall customer experience of our website.
- Create intuitive and user-friendly website layouts, navigation systems, and customer journeys.
- Design wireframes, prototypes, mockups, and high-fidelity interfaces to develop and communicate design concepts.
- Create and maintain a consistent visual identity across the website and other digital platforms.
- Design engaging product pages, category pages, landing pages, promotional pages, and other e-commerce experiences.
- Improve website layouts and user journeys to make it easier for customers to find products, understand information, and complete purchases.
- Apply conversion-focused UI/UX principles to improve enquiries, engagement and online sales.
- Ensure designs are responsive and provide a consistent, high-quality experience across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.
- Conduct user research, usability testing and competitor research where appropriate to identify areas for improvement.
- Analyse user behaviour and website performance to identify usability issues and opportunities to improve conversion rates.
- Continually review and improve the website based on customer behaviour, feedback, analytics and industry trends.
- Work closely with management to develop new website features and digital experiences based on business objectives.
Website Management & Development
- Maintain and continuously improve our existing BigCommerce website.
- Create and update website pages, product pages, graphics, banners, menus and other digital content.
- Implement design changes and improvements across the website.
- Ensure website content, imagery, product information and other customer-facing information is accurate and professionally presented.
- Work with HTML and CSS where required to implement or refine designs.
- Identify and resolve website usability, design and functionality issues.
- Ensure the website remains fast, responsive and easy to use.
- Experience with Shopify or other e-commerce platforms is also desirable.
Digital Marketing
- Develop and implement digital marketing campaigns that support the growth of the business.
- Plan, create and manage Google Ads/PPC campaigns, monitoring performance and making continual improvements.
- Develop and manage email marketing campaigns, including promotional campaigns, customer communications and targeted marketing.
- Manage and develop the company's social media presence, creating engaging content and campaigns.
- Design digital marketing materials, including social media graphics, email campaigns, advertisements, promotional banners and landing pages.
- Assist with SEO, including on-page optimisation, content structure, keyword targeting and website improvements.
- Use tools such as Google Analytics and Google Ads to monitor website and campaign performance.
- Analyse customer behaviour, traffic and conversion data to identify opportunities for improving both the website and marketing campaigns.
- Conduct A/B testing and other forms of testing where appropriate to improve website and campaign performance.
- Research competitors, industry trends and new digital marketing opportunities.
General Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the company's website design and online customer experience.
- Work closely with management to understand commercial objectives and translate them into effective UI/UX and digital strategies.
- Bring new ideas and creative concepts to improve the company's online presence.
- Identify problems with the existing website or customer journey and proactively develop solutions.
- Balance aesthetic design, usability and commercial performance when making design decisions.
- Keep up to date with developments in UI/UX, e-commerce, web design and digital marketing.
- Manage multiple projects and priorities while working to agreed deadlines.
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience in UI/UX design and web design, ideally within an e-commerce environment.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating previous UI/UX, website and digital design work.
- Strong understanding of user-centred design principles and the ability to create intuitive and engaging digital experiences.
- Experience creating wireframes, prototypes, mockups and high-fidelity UI designs.
- Strong understanding of responsive web design and designing for desktop, tablet and mobile.
- Experience using design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Photoshop, Illustrator or similar.
- Experience working with e-commerce websites, ideally BigCommerce, Shopify or similar platforms.
- Good understanding of HTML and CSS.
- Understanding of website conversion optimisation and the principles behind effective e-commerce design.
- Experience with Google Analytics or similar analytics platforms.
- Practical experience with Google Ads/PPC, email marketing, social media marketing and SEO.
- Strong understanding of how design, user experience and digital marketing work together to influence customer behaviour and conversions.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Creative, analytical and commercially minded.
- Able to work independently, take initiative and manage projects from concept through to implementation.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be someone who can look at a website from both the customer's perspective and the business's perspective.
You should be able to identify why a particular page, layout or customer journey isn't working effectively, understand how it could be improved, design the solution and then help implement and measure the results.
We are particularly interested in someone who understands that good UI/UX isn't simply about making a website look good. It is about making it easy to use, intuitive, engaging and ultimately effective at turning visitors into customers.

Pay: £27,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
