Job Description

The Client Design Authority undertakes a vital role in ensuring that key defence infrastructure that interfaces is safe and fit for purpose.

We are looking for an experienced Technical Author to support the technical capability of the Design Authority (DA). This role will be suited to Technical Authors with experience in an Engineering Discipline

TASKS

Develop, maintain and assure high-quality technical documentation that supports engineering design, operation, maintenance and safety of Structures, Systems and Components (SSC).
Ensure complex technical information is translated into clear, accurate, and compliant documentation for stakeholders, operators and maintainers.
Support the development and management of document templates, guidance documents and authoring standards.
Collaborate with engineering, design, safety and project teams to gather, validate and structure technical information
Discharge and display a robust safety and security culture.

My profile

Experience

Experience in technical authoring within an engineering, defence or industrial environment.

️ Experience working within the nuclear industry or another high-hazard industry is advantageous, but not essential.

Ability to interpret engineering technical data, drawings, schematics and design documentation.

✍️ Excellent written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.

Experience with document management systems, version control and configuration management processes.

Knowledge of technical documentation standards and structured authoring principles.

Qualifications & Training

✅ Essential

HNC (or equivalent qualification/experience) in a relevant engineering discipline.

Proven experience in technical authoring within an engineering environment.

Desirable

Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status or equivalent professional experience and industry standing.

Degree (or equivalent qualification/experience) in a relevant engineering discipline.

Umbrella contractor considered for this role

Requires sole UK national with SC clearance

Mainly remote working with 1-2 days per month at Faslane
