Department

An exciting opportunity has arisen to support our dynamic and collegial midwifery education team as a Lecturer at the University of York. The successful candidate will contribute to the vibrant, multidisciplinary environment of the Department of Health Sciences. The Department’s core aim is to improve health and healthcare through the delivery of high quality teaching and the application of challenge-led research to policy and practice. Role

We are seeking to appoint a committed and highly motivated registered midwife with a passion for midwifery education and extensive knowledge of contemporary midwifery practice. Experience of teaching in higher education settings would be desirable, as would experience of involvement in the care of women and newborn infants with additional care needs and complications.

The successful candidate will engage within the Department of Health Sciences, mainly contributing to the midwifery education portfolio to enhance our strong reputation. In conjunction with clinical partners we provide highly regarded midwifery education, which is fully accredited with the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) standards, and achievement of the BFI Gold Sustainability Award.

The role will primarily involve delivery of pre-registration BMid (Hons) programme in Midwifery. The Department offers a range of other undergraduate and postgraduate midwifery and nursing programmes which the postholder may also be able to contribute to.

The role is a fixed term appointment for 12 months to cover a period of maternity leave.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed (please refer to the job description)

Current midwifery registration with the NMC.
Postgraduate degree in midwifery or related, or evidenced equivalent experience is desirable
Specialist subject area knowledge founded on substantive professional experience. In particular, knowledge, and experience of complexities in maternity care and additional care needs of women and newborn infants.
Experience in teaching, learning and assessment within Higher Education or in a clinical setting.
An opportunity to undertake citizenship, including the ability to perform administrative tasks in a timely fashion, and to contribute to the collegial and collaborative ethos of the department.
