Private Housekeeper
£13.50 per hour | 16 hours per week | No weekends
We are looking for a reliable, organised and experienced Private Housekeeper to join a busy family household and assist with the housekeeping of our collection of holiday cottages.
This is a varied, hands-on role for someone who takes real pride in their work, has excellent attention to detail and is confident working both independently and alongside an existing housekeeping team.
Working Hours
16 hours per week over 3 days
- Monday – fixed
- Friday – fixed
- Wednesday – preferred, although there can be some flexibility with this day
- No weekend working
Due to the nature of the holiday cottage business, some Bank Holiday and holiday working will be required, although you will not be expected to work Christmas Day or Boxing Day.
Monday & Friday – Holiday Cottages
Mondays and Fridays will primarily be spent looking after the family’s holiday cottages and working alongside our external housekeeping team on changeover days.
Duties will include:
- Personally completing at least one holiday cottage changeover to a 5-star standard
- Checking properties completed by the external housekeeping team to ensure they are finished to the same high standard and ready for arriving guests
- Making beds and preparing bathrooms and living areas
- Topping up guest essentials and housekeeping supplies
- Distributing welcome items to the cottages
- Checking and monitoring housekeeping stock
- Preparing and organising bags of bedding and towels for cottage changeovers
- Sorting used laundry ready for collection
- Reporting any maintenance issues, damage or missing items
- Ensuring each property is beautifully presented and completely guest-ready
Wednesday – Private House
The third working day will primarily be based at the family’s private home.
Alongside general housekeeping, this will include varied household tasks such as tidying, organising and sorting, depending on what is required that week.
Other Responsibilities
Occasional dog sitting will form part of the role, so applicants must be comfortable around dogs.
There may also be the opportunity for occasional house sitting for the right candidate.
Driving
A full driving licence and your own car are essential, as travel between properties is required. You will be expected to use your own vehicle during working hours where necessary, with business mileage reimbursed.

- Extremely organised with excellent attention to detail
- Able to work independently and use their own initiative
- Happy to work as part of a wider housekeeping team
- Confident checking the work of others and maintaining consistently high standards
- Physically comfortable with the demands of housekeeping and holiday cottage changeovers
- Flexible and willing to help with the varied tasks involved in running a busy private household and holiday cottage business
Previous housekeeping or holiday cottage experience would be an advantage.
