The Clinical School Computing Service (CSCS) is looking for a Junior Developer to work in our Development Team. This team provides web application and development services for the School and departments and Institutions within the School. The solutions developed by this team underpin strategic School functions such as the new unified School website
The role holder will primarily work on two projects: the development of the new School VLE, and the development of the new School website. In both instances the post holder will assist the senior developers, content designers and users through activities such as requirements gathering, solution research, software design, software development, software configuration, testing, documentation, user engagement, training and support.
The post holder will be supported by the team to develop a broad range of skills relevant to working as a developer and will also be expected to problem-solve independently to some extent, escalating to technical specialists when required.
You must have the following skills and experience:
Developing systems/websites using any coding language including HTML, PHP, Python etc
Supporting customers in the use of IT systems and services
Working in an IT related function
Demonstrable team-working experience
Proven experience in developing technical solutions to requirements.
Proven ability to learn new technologies as required for new projects.
Well-developed problem-solving skills.
In addition to the above, soft skills, for example, communication, initiative and enthusiasm are also important.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
