About the Role
Do you enjoy photography and would like to share your passion with someone else?
As a Volunteer Photography Buddy with SeeAbility, you will support a person with learning disabilities and autism to enjoy their interest in photography. By spending time together, you will help them build confidence, develop their photography skills, and explore their local community through taking photographs.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference by encouraging someone to pursue a hobby they love while building a meaningful friendship.
What You Will Do
As a Volunteer Photography Buddy, you will:
- Meet regularly with the person you are supporting at an agreed time and location.
- Encourage and support them to enjoy photography in a way that suits their interests and abilities.
- Visit local parks, attractions, or community spaces together to take photographs.
- Share photography tips and techniques, where appropriate.
- Help build their confidence and independence while enjoying a shared activity.
- Encourage creativity and celebrate their achievements.
- Follow SeeAbility's guidance to ensure safe and positive volunteering.

- Has an interest in photography (you don't need to be a professional photographer).
- Is patient, friendly and encouraging.
- Enjoys spending time with people and building positive relationships.
- Has excellent communication and listening skills.
- Is dependable and committed to volunteering regularly.
- Respects the individuality, choices, and independence of the people we support.
- Shares SeeAbility's values of inclusion, respect, and empowerment.
No previous experience of supporting people with learning disabilities, autism or visual impairment is necessary, as training and ongoing support will be provided.

Requirements
To help keep everyone safe, all volunteers will be required to:
- Complete an Enhanced DBS check where appropriate.
- Provide two satisfactory references.
- Complete SeeAbility's mandatory online training before starting the role.
