About the role
We are looking for an Assistant Project Manager to join the team and support the Project Manager on a major overhead line project based in Dundee. This is a great opportunity for someone with project delivery experience who is looking to build their career within a busy infrastructure environment, supporting key programme, commercial, HSEQ, stakeholder and reporting activities across the project.
What you'll be doing
Programme & Delivery
- Support PMs in developing, updating, and monitoring project programmes (Primavera P6 / MS Project).
- Track progress against agreed milestones, flagging delays and assisting in recovery planning.
- Ensure activities are aligned with NEC3 contract requirements, including Accepted Programme updates.
Commercial & Contractual
- Assist in contract administration (NEC awareness is desirable (see below) not essential).
- Support PMs with Early Warnings (EWNs), Compensation Events (CEs), and risk register management.
- Help monitor budgets, cost forecasts and cash flow against allocated work packages.
Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ)
- Promote a positive safety culture including carrying out site safety walks and observations.
- Support RAMS reviews and ensure compliance with H&S legislation and BB procedures.
- Assist with quality documentation (ITPs, NCRs, audits) and environmental compliance tracking.
Stakeholder & Team Coordination
- Support engagement with subcontractors, designers, client (SSEN) and third parties (local authorities, landowners).
- Prepare meeting packs, take minutes and track actions to closure.
- Act as liaison between site teams and PM on day-to-day issues.
Reporting & Information Management
- Collect progress data (site diaries, daily records, KPI trackers).
- Contribute to weekly/monthly reports (Pulse Reports etc).
- Use digital tools (Power BI, Sypro, SharePoint, BIM 360, etc.) for data management.
Leadership & Development
- Supervise and mentor junior engineers/graduates as appropriate.
- Gain experience towards Chartership/Professional Review.
- Develop skills to step up into a Project Manager role.
Who we're looking for
Essential:
- Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or related field.
- Minimum 2–4 years’ experience in infrastructure/energy/construction projects (ideally transmission/OHL, civils, utilities or rail).
- Working knowledge of NEC3 contracts.
- Proficiency with MS Project or Primavera P6, plus standard MS Office suite.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Full Driving License
Desirable:
- Experience with major contractors or transmission projects.
- Exposure to commercial processes (EWNs, CEs, change management).
- Experience using project collaboration platforms (Sypro, Power BI etc.).
- SMSTS or equivalent H&S qualification.
