We are now looking to expand our team with the appointment of a Chartered Structural Design Engineer/Technical Designer to join us in Billericay, Essex.
The Role
This is a role that brings structural engineering and design together, initially with an equal split between the two.
You will be involved from the early stages of a project, taking creative concepts and developing them into detailed, practical and structurally sound designs. This will include developing forms and construction methods, producing 2D and 3D models, selecting appropriate materials, developing details and connections, and ensuring designs can be efficiently fabricated, assembled and installed.
Alongside the technical design element, you will be responsible for the structural engineering, analysis and calculations required to verify and deliver the final solution.

What you'll be doing:
- Developing creative concepts into detailed, practical and technically viable designs
- Leading structural design, calculations and engineering assessments
- Designing temporary, event and specialist structures
- Producing detailed drawings using AutoCAD and Rhino
- Developing 3D models and exploring parametric design using tools such as Grasshopper
- Designing structures in steel, aluminium, timber and other materials
- Designing connections, fixings, lifting arrangements and stability systems
- Undertaking temporary works design and design reviews
- Working closely with project, production and fabrication teams throughout the build
- Providing technical advice and solving engineering challenges as projects develop
- Taking ownership of your calculations, designs and technical decisions
- Occasionally visiting sites to see your designs being installed and brought to life!
What we're looking for
You'll be a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with a degree or equivalent qualification in Civil, Structural or related Engineering, together with solid industry experience.
IStructE chartership would be preferred, although ICE chartership is also welcomed.
We are looking for an engineer who combines strong technical capability with a genuine interest in design, creativity and the development of physical structures.
You will also have:
- Strong AutoCAD and Rhino skills
- Experience working with structural analysis and design software
- A good understanding of structural engineering and UK standards
- The ability to take ownership of calculations and designs
- A practical, problem-solving mindset
- The ability to work collaboratively with designers, project managers, production and fabrication teams
Experience with software such as Tekla Structures, GSA, ETABS, SAP2000 or similar would be advantageous. Experience with Grasshopper or other parametric design tools would also be beneficial.
Previous experience in temporary works, events, exhibitions, construction, fabrication or specialist structures would be highly desirable and would be considered an advantage.
