Job Purpose:
The Caretaker/ Maintenance Assistant is responsible for completing allocated daily routines and operational maintenance at Sevenoaks Prep and working as part of the Maintenance team to complete minor repairs and enhancements.
Responsible to:
The Site Manager with whom they will regularly meet to discuss work schedules and events, improvements and issues.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
Unlocking the site and making daily checks of all areas to ensure the school is functioning correctly. Proactively looking for issues and reporting these to the Site Manager for resolution.
Ensure site in good operational order: all disposables kept topped up; toilet rolls, soaps, air fresheners, light bulbs, batteries, etc. Being first point of contact for incidences of pests and getting the pest control company in.
Taking part in activities across the school: minibus runs (if have the requisite driving qualification), car parking, general school update meetings, set up for plays, events , meetings, annual social events (fireworks, ball, bazaar, quiz night etc.).
Maintaining the risk assessments for the maintenance work across the site.
Being registered as the contact number for the fire alarm auto dialler.
Completing training as required.
Carrying out the monthly water checks and recording the results.
Making sure the site is safe, clean and tidy. For example (but not an exhaustive list):
· Sweeping paths and tarmac
· Daily litter collection and recycling
· Deliver post and packages within the school.
· Complete minor intra day cleaning duties.
· Prepare refuse for weekly collections
· Setting up and clearing away the dining room tables etc.
· Setting up for meetings and events
· Cleaning school minibuses
· Completing site and minibus safety checklists together with fuel refills
· Picking up leaves
· Salting site in bad weather, clearing away snow
· Locking courts in bad weather etc.
· Moving furniture.
Participate in the implementation of various policies including Health and Safety, general standards and following procedures to ensure the safety of yourself and all those using the Sevenoaks Prep site.
Initiate and propose improvements to benefit the school environment and achieve better value for money.
Participating in maintenance projects, completing minor repairs, painting etc where required.
Acting as part of a team providing support and advice to colleagues and deputising for the other team members in their absence.
Developing and maintaining relationships with contractors, working in partnership with the contractor to provide the best outcome for the school.

Remuneration and hours:
This is a full-time permanent position working either 7am-4pm or 8am-5pm (with an hour lunch break) Monday to Friday all year round.
Salary: £26,569
Lunch is provided free of charge for all staff whose working hours encompass school lunchtime.
Further Information:
It is anticipated that the person appointed will start at Sevenoaks Preparatory School at the start of Autumn Term (1st September) 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.
