Job Description:
As a Military Support Administrator with Sodexo at Merville Barracks, Colchester, CO2 7UT, you’ll provide high-level administrative support within a busy military headquarters, working closely with senior military personnel and supporting the day-to-day operation of the unit.
This is not an entry-level administration role. We are looking for an experienced and highly capable administrator with a strong background in providing professional administrative support. You’ll need to be confident working independently, comfortable managing a demanding workload and able to communicate assertively and professionally with people at all levels.
Working within a structured military environment, you’ll need the confidence and resilience to hold your own, manage competing demands and ensure important tasks are followed through accurately and on time. Previous MOD or military administration experience would be beneficial, but it is not essential – a strong and proven administrative background is key.
What You’ll Do:
-
Provide comprehensive administrative and clerical support to senior military personnel and Battalion Headquarters.
-
Manage a busy and varied workload, prioritising tasks and working to important deadlines with minimal supervision.
-
Maintain accurate personnel records, reports, trackers and documentation.
-
Support the management and coordination of a high volume of reports and administrative workflows.
-
Proofread and quality-check documentation, ensuring a consistently high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
-
Produce, maintain, update and distribute important unit documentation.
-
Undertake PA-style duties, including coordinating accommodation, hotel and transport bookings.
-
Liaise confidently and professionally with military personnel of all ranks, external organisations and other key stakeholders.
-
Handle sensitive and confidential information with complete discretion.
-
Use Microsoft Office and internal systems to maintain accurate records, trackers and administrative information.
-
Proactively follow up outstanding information and actions to ensure deadlines are met.
-
Support the wider headquarters team with additional administrative duties as required.
What You Bring:
-
Significant previous experience in a strong administrative role is essential.
-
A proven ability to manage a demanding workload and multiple competing priorities.
-
Excellent attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy.
-
Confidence working independently and making decisions within your area of responsibility.
-
A confident, resilient and assertive communication style, with the ability to build professional working relationships at all levels.
-
The confidence to work effectively within a structured military environment and communicate with personnel of varying ranks.
-
Strong Microsoft Office and general IT skills.
-
Excellent written communication, keyboard and telephone skills.
-
Strong organisational and time-management skills.
-
The ability to remain professional and composed when working under pressure.
-
A proactive approach – you’ll be someone who takes ownership, follows things through and does not need constant direction.
-
A high level of discretion and understanding of confidentiality.
-
Previous experience within the MOD, Armed Forces or a similar highly structured environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
Please note: This position requires Security Check (SC) clearance. Role-specific military systems and training requirements will also apply.
