Job Description
Bedfordshire Police Legal Services Department is a small dynamic team at the forefront of support services to many operational departments across the force. The team deal with a wide variety of legal based processes which are often vast in nature and this is a team where individuals have the opportunity to learn and grow in a supportive legal environment.
Legal Services are offering an opportunity for a self-motivated member of staff who has an interest in the promotion of the use of civil orders across the organisation. Bedfordshire Police are committed to safeguarding victims and obtaining positive outcomes. One way we do this is by obtaining Civil Orders which protect victims by the long-term management of defendants. Historically, Civil Orders have not been utilised to their best advantage across the organisation and we are looking for someone with the drive to change this and make a difference. As a legal assistant, you will also be required to deal with civil claims. This will include gathering information and material from force systems, and creating an investigation report to make an informed decision on liability.
It is anticipated the successful candidate will have the ability to be able to work on their own initiative as well as having the confidence to move the project along as they feel appropriate. The candidate will need to be able to effectively communicate with stakeholders across the organisation and produce reports.
The advertised role is anticipated to be an agile position, however, there will be a requirement for the successful candidate to attend Bedfordshire HQ two days per week. One of these days must be on a Monday. There will also be a requirement to travel within Bedfordshire and on occasions outside of the county.
Applicants should be prepared as far as possible to work alongside court times of 9:00 - 5:00.

Vetting Process
Please note that, as part of the vetting process, the BCH Vetting Unit may need to contact your current line manager for a Supervisor Appraisal. This requirement aligns with the 2025 National Guidelines for Vetting (APP 6.5.18).
