Pitlair House is a small, independent 35-bed nursing home, set within a beautiful period property in rural Fife, surrounded by landscaped gardens.

Our environment offers something different. A calm, homely setting where residents can enjoy time outdoors, connect with nature and feel part of a relaxed, hotel-like atmosphere.

Job Purpose

To plan, organise and deliver a varied programme of meaningful activities that promotes the physical, emotional, social and mental wellbeing of residents. The Activities Coordinator will encourage residents to maintain independence, dignity, choice and individuality while creating opportunities for engagement, enjoyment and community involvement.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver a diverse programme of daily, weekly and seasonal activities that meet the individual interests, abilities and needs of residents.
Complete resident assessments to identify hobbies, preferences, life history and cultural or spiritual needs.
Develop personalised activity plans in line with individual care plans.
Encourage maximum participation while respecting each resident's choice and independence.
Organise one-to-one activities for residents who are unable or unwilling to join group sessions.
Arrange entertainment, outings and visits from community groups, schools, volunteers and local organisations.
Celebrate birthdays, cultural events, national awareness days and seasonal occasions.
Support residents to maintain relationships with family and friends through events and communication opportunities.
Work closely with care staff, nursing staff and relatives to identify opportunities for meaningful engagement.
Ensure activities promote physical health, cognitive stimulation and emotional wellbeing.
Maintain accurate records of activities delivered, attendance and resident outcomes.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the activity programme and seek resident feedback.
Manage the activities budget responsibly and order supplies as required.
Ensure activity areas and equipment are safe, clean and fit for purpose.
Comply with all health and safety, infection prevention and control, safeguarding and moving and handling procedures.
Promote the home's values and provide a welcoming, inclusive and person-centred environment.

Person Specification

Essential

Caring, compassionate and enthusiastic approach.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Creative and organised with the ability to motivate others.
Ability to build positive relationships with residents, relatives and colleagues.
Good organisational and time management skills.
Basic IT skills for record keeping and planning.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Flexible approach to working, including occasional evenings or weekends for special events.
Understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding responsibilities.

Desirable

Previous experience working in a care home, healthcare or social care setting.
Experience planning activities or events.
Knowledge of person-centred care.
Qualification in Health & Social Care, Activity Provision, Dementia Care or a related field.
Experience supporting people living with dementia.

Knowledge and Skills

Understanding of the needs of older people, including those living with dementia.
Ability to adapt activities for varying physical and cognitive abilities.
Good communication with people who have sensory or communication difficulties.
Ability to risk assess activities and outings.
Creative problem-solving and initiative.

Physical Requirements

Able to move around the home throughout the day.
Participate in activities that may involve light physical effort.
Assist with setting up and clearing away activity equipment.

General Responsibilities

Maintain confidentiality in accordance with data protection legislation.
Attend mandatory training and participate in continuing professional development.
Participate in supervision, appraisal and team meetings.
Follow all organisational policies and procedures.
Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role as requested by the Home Manager.

Positive resident and family feedback.
Individual activity plans completed and regularly reviewed.
Accurate and timely documentation.
Successful delivery of an engaging annual activities programme.
Compliance with regulatory standards and organisational policies.
