An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Councils successful Corporate Debt Team.
The successful applicant would be expected to be proactive and motivated to:

Collect outstanding debt due to the council specifically Council Tax, Business Rates, Housing Benefit Overpayments and Sundry Debt via appropriate collection methods through a variety of communication channels.

Deal with debt from the return of Collection / Enforcement Agents onwards taking action to contact debtors and make payment plans in accordance with procedures.

Deal with more technical and complex high level arrears cases through to resolution.

Identify vulnerable customers and work with the Benefit and Financial Welfare team referring residents to financial support with the end goal of collecting overdue income and reducing debt.

When required meeting residents either via Teams or face to face at Council premises to support and assist them.

Identifying, progressing, and reviewing suitable cases an applying suitable collection strategies and campaigns.
It is essential you have experience of working within a financial services environment such as Revenues and Benefits, credit control, account reconciliation or a similar related office environment. Additionally, you will have good communication and interpersonal skills, combined with competent IT skills, accurate data entry along with a good attention to detail.

Career Progression Frameworks (CPF) have been introduced for all roles at Medway Council. These frameworks provide a mechanism for employees to take ownership of their development within their post and be rewarded accordingly. The salary you will be offered will be at level A. There will be further opportunity once in post to progress from level A to B, and B to C.

The Corporate Debt Team are seeking a Corporate Debt Officer to join the team at level A. This is the entry point of the role, so you will need to be able to demonstrate the relevant knowledge, experience and skills to get you started, but you will be supported to develop in your role through induction, probation and a supportive Performance Appraisal and Career Conversation. All elements of level A listed within the person specification are essential. Through your induction you will be introduced to the Career Progression Framework (CPF), which will help you to identify your areas of strength and any development needs.
