About Us

Munro Instruments is a long-established British manufacturer of specialist scientific and environmental monitoring equipment. We are looking for a hands-on Workshop Technician to join our team and support the assembly, testing, calibration, and servicing of our precision instruments.

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong mechanical engineering skills who enjoys fault finding, problem solving, and working with precision equipment. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting production and maintaining the high standards of quality our customers expect.

Duties

Assemble precision mechanical and electromechanical instruments in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
Calibrate instruments and equipment to ensure accuracy and compliance with company standards.
Carry out routine testing, inspection, and quality checks on finished products.
Diagnose faults and conduct repairs on customer-returned equipment and in-house products.
Perform fault finding on mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems using appropriate test equipment.
Service, maintain, and refurbish instruments to ensure continued reliability and performance.
Record calibration results, test data, and repair information accurately and maintain relevant documentation.
Support production activities to ensure customer orders are completed on time and to the required quality standards.
Liaise with colleagues across engineering, production, and quality departments to resolve technical issues.
Contribute to improving workshop efficiency, product quality, and manufacturing processes.

Requirements

Essential:

Previous experience in a mechanical, engineering, manufacturing, or workshop-based environment.
Experience carrying out testing, inspection, and calibration activities.
Good mechanical assembly skills and experience using hand and power tools, and machinery.
Experience in fault finding, diagnosis, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical equipment.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical documentation, work instructions, and health and safety procedures written in English.
Strong practical problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to work.
Good attention to detail with a commitment to quality and accuracy.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication and organisational skills.
Basic computer skills for recording test, calibration, and repair data.

Desirable:

Engineering qualification (Apprenticeship, NVQ, BTEC, HNC/HND, or equivalent).
Experience working with scientific instruments, sensors, or precision equipment.
Knowledge of electrical assemblies and basic electronics.
