Position Title: Audience Development Officer (Gosport Routes)
Location: Community based across Gosport with travel across South East Hampshire
Reporting to: Programme Director (Gosport Routes)
Contract: Fixed term for 3 years
Salary: £30,390 - £34,390 per annum (dependent on skills, experience and qualifications)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
What is the role?
The Audience Development officer plays a key role in supporting the Programme Director and the wider delivery team. This role provides audience development, marketing, communications and community engagement support across the project, ensuring information flows efficiently, systems are well managed, communities are welcomed and cultural activities are promoted clearly, inclusively and in an engaging manner.
What does a day in the life of this role look like?
A day in the life of an Audience Development Officer is varied, people-focused and community-centred. The day may begin by reviewing audience data, responding to enquiries and planning communications to promote upcoming cultural activities and events. They may also prepare newsletters, update social media channels or create accessible promotional materials designed to engage a wider range of communities.
A significant part of the role involves building relationships and engaging directly with local people. This could include attending community events, meeting with local organisations, speaking with participants and families or working alongside Community Producers to identify and reach groups who may not traditionally engage with cultural activities. The Audience Development Officer acts as a welcoming first point of contact, helping people feel valued and informed while promoting the personal, social and wellbeing benefits of taking part in creative and cultural experiences. Their work focuses on building trust, encouraging participation and ensuring that the programme remains inclusive and community led.
The role has an important administrative and strategic element. Throughout the day, the Audience Development Officer maintains accurate record, updates databases, analyses audience feedback and supports monitoring and evaluation activities. They help measure the impact of audience development initiatives, prepare reports, and identify opportunities to improve engagement and reach new audiences. By combining creativity, communication skills and data-driven insights, the Audience Development Officer plays a vital role in ensuring that cultural opportunities are accessible, relevant and meaningful for the diverse communities served by the Gosport Routes programme.
What to expect:
Your work will be varied but you will be part of a strong and vibrant team. You will work under the management of the Programme Director to support audience development, marketing, communications and community engagement.
You will be required to work 37.5 hours per week which may include some early evenings and/or weekend as needed
