About Us
Hereford Quarries is a well-established, independent operation licensed by the Environment Agency to accept and process inert waste for the production of high-quality recycled aggregates and screened soils.
Operating from our 10-acre site just outside Hereford, as well as our Upper Lyde Gravel Pit, we play a key role in supporting sustainable construction across the region.
About the Role
We are looking for a skilled, reliable, and safety-focused Quarry Operative to join our growing team. This is a hands-on role in a busy quarry and recycling environment where teamwork, efficiency, and a strong commitment to health and safety are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Production Manager, you will:
· Operate mobile plant machinery including 360° excavators, loading shovels, and other quarry equipment
· Handle and process materials including inert waste, aggregates, and soils
· Load crushers, screeners, and dumpers efficiently to meet production targets
· Assist in the recycling, and sand & gravel product processing.
· Carry out routine plant inspections, report defects, and support maintenance activities
· Maintain high housekeeping standards across the site
· Support daily and weekly production targets
· Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure smooth site operations
· Follow all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) procedures
· Identify hazards and contribute to a safe working environment
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking someone with experience in quarrying, recycling, construction, or a similar heavy industrial environment.
Essential:
· Proven experience operating heavy plants (e.g. excavator, loading shovel, dumper)
· Relevant plant licence.
· Strong awareness of health and safety practices
· Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
· Full UK Driving Licence
Desirable:
· Experience in aggregates, quarrying, or recycling operations
· Geotechnical awareness or experience working on quarry faces
· Knowledge of risk assessments and safe systems of work
· Basic mechanical knowledge for routine maintenance
