Lambton House is a 57-bedroom family run care home for people with residential and dementia needs.
We are looking for an outstanding chef who has a passion for cooking and who wants to help deliver great menus for our residents.
You should have an S/NVQ2 in Catering & Hospitality or Professional Cookery, a minimum Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate, and an understanding of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points.
You’ll be organized to meet service times, thrive on autonomy to plan and order supplies, prioritize work schedules and have a knack for creative recipes. You will be creative, passionate about food and understand the importance of good quality, home cooking to our residents.
Reporting to the Registered Manager, your ability to form positive relationships with residents, their families and professional colleagues is vital.

Hourly rate -£13.65
overtime may be offered
Weekend working may be part of this role subject to Rota

Role and responsibilities
Assisting in every aspect of the catering operation within the home for residents and team members, delivering a high-quality service and dining experience in line with all health, safety & hygiene requirements.
- Delivering varied, nutritious, and appetizing menu options for our residents, considering of any special dietary needs, allergen information and retaining records for inspection purposes.
- Supervising a small team of cooks and kitchen assistants.
- Liaising with approved suppliers to ensure efficient delivery of orders, in line with the company policy and procedures to maintain appropriate stock levels and budget control.
- Assisting with the Food Safety Management System including COSHH Management and cleaning Rota, to ensure the regular cleaning of all kitchen areas, equipment and appliances to meet the high standards of cleanliness necessary in food storage, preparation and service areas.
- Practicing safe systems of work across the range of tasks and in line with the Food Safety Management Systems, by assessing risk and having due regard for personal safety of residents, visitors and team members.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and therefore it is important that you are able to recognize the signs which may indicate possible abuse, harm or neglect in its different forms and know what to do if there are any concerns. All colleagues are required to attend safeguarding training appropriate to their role and to undertake additional training in associated areas. You also have the ability to seek appropriate advice and report concerns, including escalation if action is not taken.
Qualifications , Skillsets and Personal attributes -
S/NVQ2 in Catering & Hospitality or Professional Cookery, a minimum Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate, and an understanding of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points.
- Dementia awareness and relevant training/qualifications are desirable.
- Knowledge of a care environment and IDDSI standards is desirable.
- A committed and organized approach. A clear thinking considered and thoughtful decision maker.
- Excellent effective communicator.
- A high standard of written English and Computer based skills. This role has a requirement to accurately input, update and maintain company information and records on a weekly/ monthly basis, to a clear standard that will satisfy external governing bodies.
- Confident and enthusiastic.
