Job description

At Edinburgh Napier University’s School of Applied Sciences, putting theory into practice is our guiding ethos, using science to help you make a difference. Our £60 Million, purpose-built science and health campus in Sighthill houses a full range of cutting-edge facilities where staff, students and researchers tackle global and local issues affecting health, society and the environment.

We are seeking to recruit a new full time Lecturer in Life Sciences, to join our team and complement our existing strengths in high-quality research and teaching.

We offer opportunities for reward and promotion based on research, learning and teaching, enterprise and professional practice and anticipate making one new appointment in the area of molecular, cellular or biomedical sciences. We are particularly interested in people able to complement our existing research and scholarship, for example within our Centre for Biomedicine and Global Health.

The Role:

Based within our School of Applied Sciences you will be in an excellent position to bring your disciplinary expertise to our thriving teaching and research culture, in turn contributing to our current undergraduate and postgraduate teaching while helping to create and deliver new provision.

You will have the opportunity to develop your own scholarship and contribute to research teams and centres within the school and university. Your own scholarship may be in a biological discipline but could also focus on learning and teaching or on relevant, related activity such as science communication, distance learning and public engagement.

As a multidisciplinary school with an excellent record in applied research and teaching useful skills, we will support you to go beyond traditional boundaries, working with others internally, across the wider university, and externally to foster an inter-professional, collaborative approach to educational delivery and research from the outset.

Further to this, you will find yourself making a profound and positive impact on the experience of our students as you develop postgraduate research supervision and supervise a range of undergraduate and masters research projects.

What we will need from you:

We are looking for an individual who has enthusiasm and aptitude for teaching Life Sciences as well as:

A doctoral level qualification in a relevant discipline such as molecular/cellular/biomedical/human physiological sciences.
High-quality publications, ideally including from the past two years, and evidence of ability to attract external income, along with an established programme of research or scholarship, or equivalent practitioner expertise for example from industry.
Ability to complement and enhance existing research or scholarship within the School and discipline.
Experience of teaching and assessment across different levels, in relevant areas of Life Sciences, along with support of student project work.
Evidence of commitment to enhancement and innovation in teaching.
