The Import/Export Customs Specialist will provide direct support to the customer service and shipping teams, ensuring strong departmental performance in all areas of trade compliance. You will be accountable for import and export activities, driving operational excellence and developing sustainable processes across the department. This role requires extensive internal and external communication to meet Dover’s compliance standards and bridge gaps between departments and external partners, ensuring seamless end‑to‑end service.
Main duties and responsibilities:
Liaise with declarants, brokers, logistics providers, and other stakeholders to collect, review, and validate legal and customs documentation for cross border movements.
Review classifications, valuations, and the accuracy of required customs documents such as commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, import licenses, and export declarations to support efficient import and export clearance.
Handle post‑entry amendments, including corrections to customs declarations, valuation adjustments, and classification updates, ensuring compliance with HMRC and EU requirements.
Manage T1 transit document queries, ensuring accurate discharge, timely follow‑up with brokers, and prevention of potential customs liabilities.
Coordinate with internal functions including finance, materials, compliance, and operations to ensure smooth import and export activities aligned with trade compliance policies.
Drive operational excellence in trade compliance by developing and implementing tools, frameworks, reporting systems, and process improvements that enhance control, accuracy, and efficiency across import and export operations.
Education Level: Associates Degree in Relevant Discipline - Desirable
Technical Skills: Data analysis and Microsoft (Excel) skills a must.
