About CADS
CADS is a UK-based engineering company providing both industry-leading engineering software and professional design services to the construction industry.
Our Structural Design team primarily works as an outsourced engineering partner to other structural and civil engineering consultancies across the UK. We support our clients by providing additional technical expertise and design capacity, working as an extension of their internal teams.
Our projects include the design of building structures in reinforced concrete, structural steel and precast concrete, ranging from individual structural elements to complete buildings and large multidisciplinary developments. We focus on delivering practical, efficient and high-quality engineering solutions in accordance with UK standards, Eurocodes and our clients’ requirements.
What you'll be doing
You'll act as the primary technical link between clients and our engineering teams. Rather than day-to-day design work, you'll coordinate projects, review technical work, and ensure quality delivery.
As many of our clients are engineering consultancies themselves, you will need to communicate confidently with experienced structural engineers and understand the importance of working collaboratively as an extension of their team.
The role will primarily cover reinforced concrete and structural steel building structures. Experience with precast concrete would be advantageous. Experience in temporary works or scaffold design would also be beneficial but is not essential.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Acting as the primary technical interface between clients and our structural engineering design teams
-
Coordinating and reviewing structural engineering work to ensure technical accuracy, quality and compliance
-
Providing technical guidance and support to design teams throughout project delivery
-
Working collaboratively with engineering consultancies as an extension of their internal design teams
-
Liaising with clients, contractors, architects and other project stakeholders
-
Reviewing structural calculations, reports, drawings and design documentation
-
Identifying technical risks and developing practical engineering solutions
-
Ensuring projects comply with Eurocodes, UK Standards, client specifications and agreed programmes
-
Supporting project managers with technical input throughout project delivery
-
Helping to plan resources and coordinate the delivery of multiple structural design projects
-
Contributing to the continuous improvement of engineering standards, checking procedures and design processes
Essential Requirements
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership
-
Significant experience in the design and delivery of building structures
-
Strong technical knowledge of reinforced concrete and structural steel structures
-
Experience reviewing and checking structural engineering work
-
Excellent understanding of UK design standards and Eurocodes
-
Strong communication skills and confidence dealing directly with clients and multidisciplinary teams
-
Ability to manage technical coordination across multiple projects
-
Excellent problem-solving skills and sound engineering judgement
-
Familiarity with FEA software such as: Dlubal RFEM/RSTAB, SCIA Engineer, ETABS, or equivalent
Desirable Skills
The following experience would be considered a strong advantage:
- Experience with precast concrete structures
-
Experience in temporary works and/or scaffold design
