Full job description

Location: Royal Wootton Bassett
Shift: 12-hour shifts, 24/7 rota

We are hiring a Shift Team Leader to run operations at our biochar pyrolysis facility in Royal Wootton Bassett.

This is a hands-on leadership role in a high-temperature process plant — similar to biomass, EfW, CHP or gasification operations. You will lead shift teams, operate the plant from the control room and field, and take responsibility for safe systems of work (SAP, permits, isolations).

What you’ll be doing

Lead and supervise all shift operations across plant, control room and mobile plant
Operate and optimise a thermal process (pyrolysis) system handling feedstocks, gases and high-temperature equipment
Act as Senior Authorised Person (SAP) — issuing permits, managing isolations and ensuring safe execution of all work
Oversee LOTO, permit-to-work and RAMS compliance for all maintenance and contractor activities
Monitor plant performance, troubleshoot issues and take corrective action in real time
Support basic maintenance activities to maximise plant availability
Own shift handovers, reporting and daily operational planning

This role is for you if you have:

Experience in biomass, EfW, CHP, gasification or similar process plants
Hands-on experience with boilers, thermal systems or industrial process equipment
Proven experience operating under permit-to-work and LOTO systems
Authorised Person / SAP experience (or ready to step into it)
Experience leading teams in a 24/7 shift environment
Strong understanding of process safety and plant operations under variable conditions

Requirements

Essential:

5+ years in process / energy / industrial plant operations
Leadership experience in a shift environment
Strong safety background (HAZOP, risk assessments, permits)
Experience with SCADA / control systems
Comfortable working across operations and maintenance

Desirable:

Background in boiler operations, gasification or thermal processing
Engineering qualification (process, mechanical, E&I)
HV switching, confined space, or pressure systems training

Training & certifications (provided / supported where needed)

Senior Authorised Person (SAP)
NEBOSH / safety qualifications
Confined space, HV switching, first aid, pressure systems

Pay: £50,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
