Full job description

3 Day per week role (0.6FTE) at a full-time-equivalent salary of £35,000 - which equates to £21,000 per annum

Overview -

An important role in our growing business, the Credit Controller will be responsible for ensuring timely collection of outstanding customer payments, maintaining healthy cash flow, and protecting the business from credit risk.

Working as part of the growing Finance Team and liaising with colleagues across the business, this role will manage the full credit control cycle — from proactive chasing of overdue invoices to placing accounts on stop where necessary — ensuring strong financial discipline and positive customer relationships. Responsibilities may be added or varied to respond to the demands of the business.

Location - This is a predominantly office based role, working in our Cheshire office

Duties -

Proactively chase overdue payments via phone, email, and statements.
Maintain and manage the aged debtors ledger, ensuring accurate and up‑to‑date records.
Place customer accounts on stop in line with company policy and escalate concerns where required.
Monitor credit limits and identify potential credit risks early.
Resolve invoice disputes by liaising with internal teams (sales, operations, finance).
Issue monthly customer statements and reminders.
Maintain detailed notes of all credit control activity.
Prepare weekly debt reports for the Finance Manager.
Support cashflow forecasting by providing accurate debtor information.
Build strong relationships with customers while maintaining firm credit control standards.
Recommend accounts for legal action where appropriate.

Skills & Experience -

Proven experience in credit control or a similar debt‑management role.
Strong understanding of credit control processes and aged debtor management.
Confident and professional telephone manner, able to handle difficult conversations.
Experience using accounting/ERP systems (e.g., Xero, Sage, QuickBooks).
Strong Excel skills and ability to work with reports and reconciliations.
Ability to work independently and manage workload across 3 working days.
High level of accuracy, organisation, and attention to detail.
Resilient, persistent, and comfortable challenging overdue customers.
Able to thrive in a fast‑paced, growing business environment.
Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.

Qualifications - AAT Level 2–4 (desirable but not essential)

Pay: £35,000.00 per year
