Setting Leader (room based) – Tir‑Y‑Berth Greenfields

Based at Tir‑Y‑Berth School/ hybrid Greenfields Blackwood
Term‑time only position

Purpose of the Role

To lead the day‑to‑day running of the Tir‑Y‑Berth Greenfields setting, ensuring the delivery of safe, high‑quality education and care for children aged 2–8 years. The Setting Leader will work closely with the Manager of the partner nursery to ensure consistency across both settings, uphold statutory requirements, implement policies, and act as a key worker for a group of children. The role includes building strong relationships with families and supporting children’s development through effective observation, planning, and communication.

Main ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Setting Management

Oversee the daily operation of the setting, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment.
Lead staff in delivering high‑quality activities that support children’s learning and development.
Maintain high standards of hygiene, safety, and safeguarding at all times.
Work collaboratively with the Manager of the other nursery to ensure consistency in practice, planning, and policy implementation.
Foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive atmosphere for children, staff, and families.

Working With Children

Act as key person for a designated group of children, ensuring their progress is regularly observed, assessed, and recorded.
Celebrate children’s achievements and share progress with parents/carers, working in partnership to support each child’s well‑being and development.
Encourage children’s participation, independence, and confidence through responsive, child‑centred practice.
Uphold equality of opportunity and ensure all children feel valued and included.
Follow Wales Safeguarding Procedures and report any concerns, accidents, or incidents to the appropriate person.
Support children with toileting, nappy changing, and personal care as required.

Working With Families

Build positive, professional relationships with parents/carers.
Communicate regularly about children’s progress, the curriculum, and setting activities.
Encourage parental involvement and ensure families feel welcomed and informed.

Records, Policies & Compliance

Ensure all required records and documentation are accurate, up to date, and maintained in line with GDPR.
Be familiar with and implement all setting policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.
Contribute to policy development and continuous improvement across the provision.
Attend staff meetings, planning sessions, and training as required.
Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff.

Must hold a relevant qualification suitable for the role, as outlined by Social Care Wales:

Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide and motivate a team.
Excellent communication skills with children, parents, colleagues, and external agencies.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider team while also using initiative.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Understanding of and commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.

Desirable

IT literacy.
Current First Aid Certificate (as required by CIW minimum standards).
Ability to incorporate Welsh language into daily activities.

Training & Compliance

Willingness to undertake training and continuous professional development.
Six‑month probationary period applies.
Appointment subject to a satisfactory DBS check.
