Job Opportunity: Bookkeeping and VAT Assistant

We are currently seeking a Bookkeeping and VAT Assistant to join our dynamic team at Smith & Co Chartered Certified Accountants based in Lancaster. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, possess excellent organisational skills, and have a keen eye for detail, we'd love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

Managing weekly, monthly, and quarterly bookkeeping for a varied portfolio of clients.
Maintaining accurate financial records using cloud-based accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks and Sage.
Preparing and submitting VAT returns across a range of VAT schemes.
Ensuring clients remain compliant with Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements.
Processing sales and purchase invoices, bank reconciliations, and maintaining accounts receivable and payable.
Assisting clients with bookkeeping queries and providing support to improve their financial record keeping.
Liaising with clients to obtain bookkeeping records and resolve accounting queries.
Supporting the wider practice team with bookkeeping-related tasks and ensuring client deadlines are met.

Qualifications:

Whilst full training will be provided where necessary, the ideal candidate will have:

Previous bookkeeping experience within an accountancy practice or a similar finance role.
A good understanding of bookkeeping principles and VAT.
Experience using accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar.
Familiarity with Making Tax Digital requirements.
Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
A positive, proactive approach with a commitment to providing excellent client service.
