Job Description
Job Summary:
Teledyne Valeport have more than 50 years’ experience designing and manufacturing oceanographic, hydrographic and hydrometric instruments. We are committed to supplying innovative, high quality, reliable instrumentation, and our philosophy of keeping development and manufacturing entirely in-house means we can retain complete control over all aspects of our product range.
Our stunning riverside premises in the picturesque town of Totnes in the southwest of the UK houses every facility required for design, CNC machining, environmental testing, assembly, calibration and servicing. This end-to-end approach means customers can have complete faith in our expertise and be assured that we will continue to provide them with the high levels of quality, performance and service they have come to expect.
We are looking for a Logistics & Shipping Coordinator to support import and export activities by ensuring all shipments are compliant with customs regulations, company policies, and international trade requirements. The role focuses on accurate documentation, classification, and risk management to enable smooth and compliant global operations. Full training will be provided, and we will also consider this being an apprenticeship.
Job Purpose:
The trainee role will cover all aspects of logistics and shipping within a manufacturing organisation. The trainee will gain hands-on experience and a detailed training programme across logistics, shipping, purchasing, planning & order fulfilment, and trade compliance. When fully trained the employee will be able to complete the following tasks to a high standard.
Goods Receipt & Stores
Assist with receiving incoming deliveries.
Check deliveries against purchase orders and delivery documentation.
Accurately book goods into the ERP/MRP system.
Report discrepancies, shortages, or damaged goods.
Ensure received materials are correctly stored and identified.
Support stock control and stock accuracy activities.
Ensure all operating areas are kept clean, tidy and secure.
Shipping, Despatch and Customs Compliance
Prepare customer shipments for dispatch.
Generate delivery notes and shipping documentation.
Assist in packaging products to company standards.
Prepare dangerous goods for shipment with associated paperwork.
Coordinate shipments with approved carriers and freight providers.
Maintain accurate records of dispatched goods.
Support export and customs administration where required.
Ensure customer delivery requirements are met.
Business Administration
Assist with planning activities in conjunction with order fulfilment.
Maintain electronic and paper filing systems.
Enter and update data within company systems.
Maintain and produce reports and spreadsheets as required.
Respond professionally to internal and external enquiries.
Ensure complete and through records are kept and efficiently maintained for all shipments.
Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to improve processes and efficiency.
Participate in improvement projects across operations.
Learn problem-solving and root-cause analysis techniques.
Support initiatives that improve quality, delivery, and customer satisfaction.
