At CAY, the core goal is delivering bespoke interventions to help students overcome barriers to learning, to reignite their internal confidence so that they can flourish for the rest of their lives. Our students may have experienced school-based trauma, but they are capable of so much. Are you someone who can join our dedicated team of specialists who will help release the excitement of life for our young people?Job PurposeTo support the educational and emotional needs of vulnerable pupils assigned to the IAP. Our teaching assistants work closely with the IAP Lead and teaching staff to implement personalized provision plans, promote positive regulation, and encourage engagement in a low-stimulation, inclusive environment. Key Duties & Responsibilities1. Pupil Support & Intervention

Deliver targeted 1:1 or small-group interventions to support learning, engagement and emotional well-being.
Implement specific sensory, or therapeutic strategies (e.g., Zones of Regulation, Thrive approach) as outlined in the pupil’s provision plan.
Foster independence, self-esteem, and self-regulation during structured and unstructured times.

2. Teaching & Learning

Adapt lesson plans, materials, and resources to match the varying abilities and attention spans of IAP students.
Ensure pupils can safely access IT equipment, mobility aids, or specific learning materials.
Support a balanced timetable of academic learning and wellbeing activities.

3. Planning & Monitoring

Monitor pupil responses to interventions and carefully document progress through written records and observations.
Provide regular, detailed feedback to the Class Teacher, SENCO, or IAP Lead regarding the pupil’s achievements and challenges.
Contribute to formal and informal review meetings for the pupil’s plan.

4. Inclusion & Reintegration

Work actively towards the engagement of students and monitoring their readiness for transition.
Encourage peer interaction and participation.

5. Safeguarding & Welfare

Adhere to college's safeguarding and child protection policies at all times.
Maintain strict confidentiality regarding pupil records, families, and staff.
Look after the physical and emotional welfare of the students.

Person Specification

Experience: Experience working with children or young people with Special Educational Needs (SEND) or Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Skills: Strong de-escalation skills, emotional resilience, and the ability to communicate clearly and calmly.
Knowledge: Understanding of inclusion strategies, positive behavior management, and the workings of Individual Education Plans.
Qualifications: Relevant Teaching Assistant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning) or a willingness to undertake relevant CPD specific to IAP environments.

Pay: From £15.00 per hour
