Senior Operations Technician - Conjugates
As QuidelOrtho continues to grow, we are seeking to appoint a Senior Operations Technician to join our Conjugates department in Pencoed on a permanent basis. Following the initial 3–6 month training period, this role will revert to a standard working schedule (Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week). During the training period, you will work a 7-day fortnight shift pattern, consisting of 5 shifts in week one and 2 shifts in week two, with every other weekend worked.

QuidelOrtho has been manufacturing products in South Wales for over 40 years. Our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, based in Pencoed, employs over 500 people who are involved in the manufacture and supply of clinical laboratory and immunohematology products to sites across the globe.
Our Pencoed team manufacture a large menu of immunohematology products used in transfusion medicine; in addition to a large menu of immunoassay products encompassing a range of disease categories.

Your new role:
The Senior Operations Technician role focuses on precisely formulating and processing conjugate concentrates in a lab setting. You will be using specialized equipment, maintaining detailed records, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The role also requires analysing test results and collaborating with other teams.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Using BTR and/or Electronic Batch Records to carry out formulations of conjugate concentrates. Includes use of balance, pipettes, stirred cell concentrators, centrifuge, UV spectrophotometer and filtration equipment. Use of SAP system for raw material and planning requirements.
- Operating the AKTA systems including manual fraction collection where needed.
- Updating and maintain spreadsheets and control charts for trend analysis for each Conjugate Concentrate.
- Ensuring that all activities are carried out in compliance with all regulations and laws governing business and quality operations (QRS/GMP, ISO, etc.) identifying and recording anomalous observations. Responsible for ensuring compliance with all local, national, international and company regulations, policies and procedures for Health, Safety and Environmental compliance.
- Maintaining the lab environment, including ensuring calibration and maintenance of equipment is up to date, cleaning and micro monitoring.
- Adherence to the manufacturing plan, including the pooling of Conjugate Concentrates.
- Preparing conjugate concentrate in process warning limit breach (RZ and percentage yield) paperwork.
- Formulate Test Dilutions for In-Process tests, interpret results and make recommendations for appropriate action.
- Liaise with other departments for example: Reagent Formulations, Technical Support, Quality Engineering as required.
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
- Qualified to a minimum of GCSE level, including Maths and a relevant science subject (Chemistry preferred), or equivalent relevant operational experience (Diagnostics or similar industry)
- Experience of laboratory work.
- Demonstratable experience of using pipettes and weighing balance (formulating basic solutions).
- Microsoft office experience essential (Microsoft Excel is highly desirable).
- Ability to communicate verbally with all members within the operational team, outside the team and with contract staff.
- Ability to perform basic problem solving and employing ethical thinking when making decisions.
- Hardworking and reliable with Good Attendance and Timekeeping.
- Ability to deal with complex processes and systems.
