Senior Technology Specialist
We are seeking an experienced Senior Technology Specialist to join our growing technology team in Portsmouth. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled IT professional to provide technical leadership, support enterprise technology initiatives, and ensure the reliability, security, and performance of critical business systems.
As a Senior Technology Specialist, you will work closely with infrastructure engineers, software developers, cybersecurity professionals, service delivery teams, and business stakeholders to design, implement, and maintain innovative technology solutions. You will play a key role in troubleshooting complex technical issues, supporting digital transformation initiatives, and driving continuous improvements across the organization's IT landscape.
The successful candidate will possess broad technical expertise, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to lead technology initiatives while delivering outstanding service to internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for enterprise technology solutions across infrastructure, cloud, networking, and business applications.
- Design, implement, and support secure, scalable, and highly available IT systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical incidents while performing root cause analysis to prevent recurring issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver technology projects on time and within scope.
- Administer Windows Server, Linux, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, DNS, DHCP, and virtualization platforms.
- Support cloud environments using Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Monitor system performance, capacity, availability, and security using enterprise monitoring tools.
- Implement security best practices, patch management, backup solutions, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Develop automation scripts and operational tools using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar technologies.
- Maintain technical documentation, system architecture diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and IT support teams.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that improve operational efficiency and business performance.
- Ensure compliance with IT governance, cybersecurity policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Partner with business stakeholders to understand technology needs and deliver effective, business-focused solutions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Significant experience in enterprise IT, infrastructure engineering, systems administration, or technical support within complex environments.
- Strong expertise in Microsoft Windows Server, Linux, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, DNS, DHCP, and virtualization technologies.
- Experience supporting cloud platforms including Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Strong understanding of enterprise networking, firewalls, VPNs, load balancing, storage, and virtualization technologies.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code, automation, or scripting using PowerShell, Python, Terraform, Ansible, or Bash.
- Familiarity with enterprise monitoring and management tools such as Azure Monitor, SolarWinds, PRTG, Datadog, Splunk, or Prometheus.
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity principles, identity and access management, backup solutions, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
- Experience working within ITIL-based service management environments.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
- Professional certifications such as Microsoft Certified, Azure Administrator Associate, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, VMware VCP, Cisco CCNP, CompTIA Security+, or ITIL Foundation are highly desirable.
- Ability to manage multiple technical priorities in a fast-paced environment.
