Job summary

Immigration Enforcement is responsible for enforcing the governments immigration laws, tackling illegal migration, removing foreign national offenders and immigration offenders from the UK. It also aims to disrupt the organised criminal groups that exploit the vulnerable for their personal gain. Learn more on our careers pages.

The role will form part of the Immigration Enforcement (IE) team based at the Sheffield Reporting Centre. The team are an integral part of IE and play a key role in detaining and removing those that remain illegally in the UK, promoting a compliant environment and encouraging voluntary departure.

Reporting and Offender Management Teams are responsible for the attendance and management of Immigration offenders, who, due to their circumstances are required to maintain contact with the Home Office. Contact with the reporting population can be via various formats including face to face attendance at reporting centres within the UK or at a suitable designated location.

Job description

As an Enforcement Officer, you will engage directly with the public, handling queries, complaints, and signposting individuals to relevant services. You will conduct face-to-face interviews, including marriage interviews, assess individual circumstances, and manage workflows. Promoting voluntary return and progressing cases are key responsibilities, alongside conducting detentions where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

Planning and assisting with the detention and removal of Immigration Offenders.
Conducting marriage Investigation work, leading on interviews and referring cases for tasking.
Conducting reporting events. Where appropriate, proactively prompting individuals towards case resolution options including meaningful voluntary departure conversations.
Conducting appropriate Intervention and Emergency Travel Documenting interviews to assist in case progression and obtaining documentation for those liable to removal from the UK.
Overseeing contact management with those who are required to report.
Conducting face to face interviews to gain further information, being able to deal appropriately with resistance and having challenging conversations. Promoting voluntary return from the UK.
Working collaboratively and develop strong working relationships across all relevant teams and stakeholders to deliver business outcomes. Being flexible and adaptive to change.
Considering and addressing safeguarding and vulnerability issues appropriately.

Working Pattern

This role is available on a full-time basis. This role is also suitable for part-time working hours, with a minimum requirement to work 4 days / 33.6 hours per week due to business requirements.

Training

You will receive full training and support to do the job. Training takes place initially in the classroom and then continues on the job with a mentor who supports you until you are fully confident in the role. Even then you are never alone; you work as part of a team where there is always someone around for advice and support. Further information on what the training involves can be found on our website.

You will be required to attend a Reporting & Offender Management Pathway Training Course.

Travel

During your shift you will also be deployed to Hull to conduct reporting activity.

Flexible working

You may be required to undertake the same or a similar role within a different team or teams (where possible, at your base location or within reasonable travel distance), depending on business priorities. With appropriate training and support, this will provide opportunities to broaden both your experience and skill set.

2. Sift 17th July 2026.

The sift will be held on the Personal Statement, CV and Lead Behaviour - Delivering at Pace.

Should a high volume of applications be received, an initial sift will be conducted on the Personal Statement. and CV. Candidates who pass the initial sift will then be progressed to a full sift that will consist of all the remaining elements submitted Lead Behaviour - Delivering at Pace.

Candidates who fail to meet the minimum pass score for the initial sift will not have their remaining submitted elements scored and will only receive a sift score for that assessed at the initial sift.

3. Interview 7th August 2026.

If you are successful at sift stage, you will be invited to an interview that will be Behaviour and Strength based questions. All behaviours listed in the selection process will be scored at the interview.

The interview will take place in person at Sheffield - Vulcan House. Travel expenses will not be reimbursed.
