We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer / Mechanical Craftsperson to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and optimisation of mechanical systems including pipework, plumbing services, pumps, motors, steam systems, heating systems, and associated plant equipment. This role requires strong fault-finding abilities, practical engineering expertise, and a proactive approach to ensuring the safe and efficient operation of building and industrial mechanical services.

Duties
- Carry out installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of mechanical plant and equipment.
- Diagnose and rectify faults on pumps, motors, steam systems, heating systems, valves, pressurisation units, and associated mechanical services.
- Undertake pipework fabrication, installation, modification, and repairs, including copper, steel, stainless steel, and plastic systems.
- Perform plumbing maintenance and repairs on hot and cold water systems, drainage systems, and sanitary installations.
- Conduct root cause analysis to identify recurring mechanical failures and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Inspect, maintain, and repair steam generation and distribution systems, condensate return systems, pressure-reducing stations, and associated controls.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance tasks in accordance with maintenance schedules.
- Interpret technical drawings, schematics, layouts, and mechanical specifications.
- Overhaul and service pumps, motors, gearboxes, valves, and other rotating equipment.
- Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety regulations, permit-to-work systems, and industry standards.
- Support commissioning activities and system performance testing following installation or repair works.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with electrical engineers, contractors, and operational teams to minimise downtime and improve system reliability.
- Identify opportunities for energy efficiency improvements and plant optimisation.
Experience
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Craftsperson, Mechanical Technician, or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical building services and industrial plant equipment.
- Experience working with:
- Pumps and pumping systems
- Electric motors and drives
- Steam and condensate systems
- Heating and hot water systems
- Pipework systems
- Plumbing installations and maintenance
- Valves, actuators, and pressure systems
- Ability to diagnose faults and carry out effective mechanical repairs.
- Experience in planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance environments.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation relevant to mechanical engineering activities.
- Experience in commercial, industrial, healthcare, manufacturing, or facilities management environments would be advantageous.
- Relevant engineering qualifications such as NVQ Level 3, Apprenticeship, City & Guilds, BTEC, HNC/HND, or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Plumbing & Heating.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of workmanship.
