Job Summary
The Night Shift Operations Manager is responsible for leading safe, efficient and compliant overnight packhouse, warehouse and inbound operations at Mission Produce UK. The role ensures avocados and mangos are handled, packed, stored and dispatched to the required quality, ripeness, food safety and customer standards. In addition, the position holds direct responsibility for the management, supervision and performance of night shift employees, ensuring effective workforce deployment, adherence to company policies, and the maintenance of high standards of teamwork, productivity and accountability.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead health, safety, hygiene and food safety standards across night operations.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, HSE requirements, BRC, HACCP and retailer standards.
- Investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe practices, ensuring timely corrective action.
- Maintain audit-ready standards, traceability, housekeeping and safe use of MHE.
- Manage overnight packing, intake, storage and dispatch activity for avocados and mangos.
- Ensure correct grading, sizing, packing, labelling and customer specifications are achieved.
- Coordinate inloading, stock booking and system accuracy, ensure labour planning meets the business needs.
- Maintain cold chain, temperature control and product handling standards throughout the shift.
- Work with Quality, Technical, Ripening and Planning teams to manage product flow, defects and allocation decisions.
- Lead, coach, motivate and manage night shift teams across packhouse and warehouse functions.
- Set clear shift priorities aligned to production plans, intake schedules and dispatch deadlines.
- Deliver effective briefings, handovers and labour planning for changing volumes and seasonal peaks.
- Manage performance, attendance and conduct fairly, while developing team capability and product awareness.
- Manage all training activities for the night shift, ensuring that mandatory, role-specific and compliance training is effectively planned, delivered and completed for both existing team members and new hires, maintaining accurate training records and driving continuous skills development.
- Deliver shift KPIs for safety, quality, productivity, waste, yield, intake turnaround, stock accuracy and OTIF.
- Provide accurate shift reporting, highlighting risks, actions and escalations.
- Identify and implement practical continuous improvement opportunities.
