MSD Solicitors is an established and growing law firm based in Manchester City Centre, specialising in Immigration Law and Family Law.
We are seeking an experienced Immigration Solicitor or Senior Immigration Caseworker to join our expanding immigration department.
This is a fee-earning position offering a varied privately funded immigration caseload, support from administrative and legal support staff, and opportunities for continued career progression.
The role is suitable for a qualified solicitor, legal executive, experienced immigration caseworker, immigration fee earner, or senior immigration paralegal with strong practical knowledge of UK immigration law.
The Role
You will manage a varied immigration caseload from initial instruction through to completion.
You will be responsible for advising clients, preparing immigration applications, drafting detailed legal representations, reviewing evidence, managing deadlines, and ensuring that matters are progressed efficiently and in accordance with the firm’s professional and regulatory standards.
The successful candidate must be confident communicating with clients, identifying legal and evidential issues, maintaining compliant files, and working towards agreed billing and performance targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a varied immigration caseload from instruction to completion
- Take detailed client instructions and provide clear, accurate, and practical advice
- Prepare and submit immigration and nationality applications
- Draft legal representations, covering letters, witness statements, advice letters, and client correspondence
- Review supporting evidence and identify missing documents, inconsistencies, and evidential weaknesses
- Advise clients on the evidence required to support their applications
- Prepare appeal bundles, statements, chronologies, and supporting documents
- Assist with immigration appeals, administrative reviews, and refusal matters
- Manage Home Office, Tribunal, court, and client deadlines
- Maintain regular and professional communication with clients
- Produce accurate attendance notes, advice notes, and matter updates
- Maintain well-organised, compliant, and up-to-date client files
- Work closely with solicitors, caseworkers, paralegals, administrative staff, and supervisors
- Record time accurately and work towards agreed monthly billing targets
- Progress matters efficiently and commercially
- Follow the firm’s policies on confidentiality, data protection, AML, client care, and file management
- Escalate complex legal, compliance, client-care, or risk issues appropriately
- Contribute positively to the growth and development of the immigration department

The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Has strong practical experience in UK immigration law
- Can manage a busy caseload independently, with appropriate supervision where required
- Is confident preparing immigration applications and detailed legal representations
- Has strong legal drafting and written communication skills
- Can analyse documents and identify legal and evidential weaknesses
- Is organised, reliable, and able to manage multiple deadlines
- Communicates professionally and confidently with clients
- Has a commercial approach to case progression and fee earning
- Can maintain high standards of file management and compliance
- Is comfortable working towards monthly billing and performance targets
- Works well as part of a busy and collaborative legal team
- Demonstrates sound judgement and knows when to escalate complex or high-risk matters
- Is committed to delivering a high standard of client care
Experience Required
Applicants should ideally have:
- Previous experience handling UK immigration matters
- Experience managing immigration files within a law firm, regulated immigration practice, or legal services environment
- Good knowledge of Home Office procedures, forms, and evidential requirements
- Strong drafting and document-review skills
- Experience using a legal case management system
- The ability to manage a varied and busy caseload
- Experience working directly with clients
- An understanding of professional confidentiality, AML, and regulatory obligations
