Full job description

The Maintenance & QHSE Lead is a hands-on role responsible for delivering effective facilities maintenance while coordinating Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental (QHSE) activities across the business. Working within a small organisation, the role operates with a high degree of autonomy and acts as the primary point of contact for QHSE matters, supporting the Director in ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory and company requirements. The role combines practical technical work with responsibility for maintaining systems, documentation and day-to-day compliance activities.

Facilities Maintenance

Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across all company facilities
Maintain electrical systems, lighting, and undertake PAT testing
Perform general plumbing and building maintenance tasks
Conduct regular inspections of buildings, equipment and systems
Diagnose faults and carry out timely repairs
Ensure all facilities are safe, secure and compliant
Maintain fire-safe conditions within the facility
Coordinate and supervise external contractors where required
Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
Order parts and materials as required

QHSE & Compliance

Act as the internal point of contact for QHSE matters
Ensure compliance with: Health & Safety legislation, Environmental regulations, and Quality standards
Lead ISO certification, audits, and external inspections (e.g., ISO 9001, 14001)
Oversee: incident investigations (root cause, corrective actions), risk assessments and method statements and legal registers and compliance tracking
Establish and monitor QHSE KPIs and performance metrics
Own environmental strategy including carbon footprint measurement and reduction, waste management optimisation, and energy efficiency programmes

Risk, Safety & Assurance

Lead company-wide risk management strategy for operations and facilities
Ensure proactive identification and mitigation of operational risks, environmental impacts & safety hazards
Conduct audits, inspections, and workplace observations
Maintain emergency preparedness and fire safety compliance
Ensure safe systems of work are implemented and followed

Other

Develop and deliver QHSE training programmes, inductions and competency frameworks
Act as a central point of guidance for managers, employees and contractors
Communicate policies, procedures, and improvements effectively
Demonstrate and uphold the Company’s Values and IMS in all activities
Perform any other duties required by management in line with role competence and Company policies
