Summary – basic function of the role
We are seeking an experienced Quality Manager to join our team on a permanent basis, supporting our team in Cramlington, onsite 5 days per week. The Quality Manager is responsible for the strategic planning, development, implementation, and ongoing execution of Enerpac UK’s Quality Management System (QMS). This role ensures full compliance with quality policies, procedures, and standards at the site, regional, and global levels. The Quality Manager will lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of the QMS across the organisation.
Job Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and continuously improve the QMS to ensure ISO 9001 compliance, combining robust documentation control with active leadership of the audit program and management reviews to maintain excellent organizational quality standards.

Establish, monitor, analyse, and report key quality metrics, including customer complaints, supplier quality performance, cost of poor quality, scrap and rework, audit findings, NC closure time, and overall QMS effectiveness.

Empower quality and cross-functional teams through active coaching and development, overseeing objective setting, workload distribution, and performance improvement to build robust quality capability across the site.

Ensure supplier, internal, and customer quality issues are accurately reported and managed within the Qualityze system. While maintaining effective communication channels to report progress on non-conformance resolution to internal and external stakeholders.

Maintain a hands-on approach to quality assurance, stepping in to support CMM programming and component measurement during peak times, complex projects, or when additional technical inspection support is required.

Actively promote safety awareness and continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to drive change, increase efficiency, and deliver results while maintaining compliance.

Represent the company professionally at all times, adhering to company policies, procedures, and safety standards; serve as a role model and ambassador for health and safety excellence.

Effectively influence, develop, and train employees to strengthen a culture of quality and continuous improvement.

Responsible for maintaining and driving improvements across the QMS, supporting operations, logistics and supply chain activities.

Supporting the continued strategy around increasing in-house manufacturing capability, determining which products should be insourced and managing associated trials and implementation activity.

Using non-conformance data to drive continuous improvement initiatives (for example logistics-related errors, incorrect packaging, etc.).

Strong manufacturing background with an understanding of how products are made, ideally with CNC exposure.

Maintain a hands-on approach to quality assurance, stepping in to support CMM programming and component measurement during peak times or complex projects.

Experience with ERP and quality systems, including audit planning, training and conducting audits.

Managing and developing the Apprentice Quality Inspector within the team.
Skills and Competencies
-
Experience within a manufacturing, engineering, CNC machining, assembly, hydraulics, industrial equipment, or similarly regulated technical environment would be advantageous. Knowledge of CNC machining processes, component tolerances, inspection methods, and machining-related quality controls is important for this role.

Knowledge of APQP, PPAP, MSA, FMEA, Control Plans, SPC, and 8D methodologies is beneficial.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all organisational levels.

Demonstrated strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Outstanding facilitation, training, communication, and presentation abilities; positive, persuasive, and motivating leadership style.

Experience using ERP/MRP systems, Microsoft Excel, Power BI, or other data analysis and reporting tools would be beneficial.

Self-motivated, well-organized, and an effective time manager with a collaborative team-oriented approach.

Assertive yet diplomatic, with a strong understanding of business and commercial priorities.

Proven ability to work cross-functionally and within global, multicultural teams.

Capable of managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
Education and Experience

Minimum of 5 years’ experience implementing quality systems, with a proven ability to develop, train, and coach employees in a quality-driven environment.

Extensive experience managing ISO 9001 systems.

ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification or equivalent.
