BBC Studios is seeking a Senior Curation Editor for bbc.com, based in Washington, DC, reporting to the Lead Curation Editor. We continue to consolidate and enhance our BBC website and apps for global audiences, including in North America, and you will be a key part of the team curating this experience — managing the homepage and other key indexes during the US afternoon and evening window.

The right candidate will demonstrate strong editorial judgment, a sharp eye for engaging headlines and visuals, and a keen sense of US and global audience needs in the digital space. During your shifts, you will work hands-on in the CMS to ensure we always have a rich, timely content mix across the site and app. You will also contribute to daily editorial planning and curation strategy for major news events and special initiatives.

You will have experience with digital publishing best practices and optimization tactics, and a desire to deepen your understanding of analytics and develop your ability to draw actionable, real-time insights to improve engagement.

Success in this role requires close collaboration with colleagues across time zones — from Singapore and London through to the US East and West coasts. Strong communication, handover discipline, and organizational skills are essential, as is the ability to work autonomously during your shift while staying aligned with the team's editorial priorities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Curate and optimize content for bbc.com and the app, maintaining editorial integrity and responsiveness to breaking news
Craft compelling headlines and select impactful visuals, prioritizing mobile-friendly presentation
Plan and execute real-time updates, push alerts, and long-term curation strategies
Leverage audience data and industry trends to enhance engagement and user experience
Collaborate with teams across BBC News, Sport, Features, BritBox, Audience Development, and Product to align priorities
Communicate effectively across time zones, managing handovers and stakeholder relationships with colleagues in Singapore, London, and New York to ensure seamless 24/7 coverage
Document clear handovers and flag technical issues promptly
Participate in a rotating schedule for public holiday coverage, with occasional weekend work.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

5+ years in digital journalism, with experience in homepage management, news curation, or digital publishing
Strong editorial judgment and ability to prioritize under pressure
Deep understanding of audience behavior, engagement strategies, and analytics
Effective communication and collaboration skills in a fast-paced, distributed environment
Commitment to impartiality and BBC's editorial values

COMPETENCIES

Strong communicator — able to convey editorial decisions clearly to colleagues across departments and time zones, including non-specialists, and to communicate effectively with people working remotely across multiple BBC sites
Autonomous and problem-solving oriented — able to exercise sound editorial judgment and make confident calls independently during your shift, escalating when appropriate
Detail-focused while maintaining a view of the bigger picture — brings precision to headline writing and content selection without losing sight of the overall editorial mix and audience goals

COMPENSATION

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $90,000 to $100,000. The actual base salary offered depends on the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and geographic location of the position.
