The role:
The Domestic Assistant will provide a high-quality domestic service within Inverclyde Royal Hospital, maintaining a clean, safe and hygienic environment for patients, staff and visitors.
The role involves working across wards, clinical areas and departments in accordance with agreed cleaning schedules, methods and procedures, NHS Scotland National Cleaning Specification and Healthcare Acquired Infection (HAI) guidance.
You may also provide food and beverage services to patients, including the regeneration and plating of meals, where required.
The role requires the post holder to work independently or as part of a team, with the ability to prioritise workloads, respond to changing ward and departmental requirements and seek support when necessary, you may also be a first point of contact for visitors and will be expected to communicate professionally, sensitively and courteously at all times.
Band 2 roles are not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker or Health and Care Worker visa routes.

- This is a permanent post working part-time hours (15).

Key responsibilities:
You will provide an efficient and high-quality domestic service in line with agreed cleaning schedules and NHS policies, procedures and national standards. Responsibilities include the safe and economical use of cleaning products and equipment; cleaning and maintaining clinical and non-clinical areas; disposal of waste; cleaning crockery, cutlery and ward kitchen equipment; responding to cleaning audit rectifications; supporting ward food services by regenerating and plating meals and preparing hot beverages where required; complying with infection prevention and control, colour coding, Health and Safety, manual handling and fire safety requirements; maintaining security within assigned areas; reporting faulty equipment and requesting cleaning materials and supplies when required.
You will maintain high standards of personal hygiene and professional presentation, store equipment and cleaning agents correctly, participate as a team member and demonstrate flexibility when managing workload and responding to the needs of patients, staff and visitors.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- Full induction training with ongoing training and development.

Knowledge of domestic services and hospital cleaning procedures.

Training in the safe use of cleaning machinery and equipment.

Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements.

Knowledge of COSHH regulations and safe handling of cleaning products.

Knowledge of lifting and manual handling procedures.

Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices.

Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate, where required.

Good communication skills.

Good customer care skills.

Ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing requirements.

Ability to follow cleaning schedules, policies, procedures and national standards.

Ability to recognise when supervision or further assistance is required.
