Position Overview
- Job Title: Senior Assembly Engineer (Scissor Lifts / Dock Levellers)
- Location: Head Office (Bolton) with regional field travel

Job Summary
This unique, hybrid role bridges manufacturing and field operations. Based out of our Bolton head office, you will be responsible for the final mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical assembly of our scissor lifts, ensuring all heavy machinery meets strict quality, safety, and operational standards prior to commissioning.
Additionally, you will leverage your expertise in the field to execute planned preventative maintenance (PPM) training with our field engineers assisting them with reactive fault-finding, and repairs on scissor lifts, dock levellers, and loading bay equipment across customer sites.
As an Assembly Engineer of the team, you will collaborate with the Production Development Manager and act as a technical escalation point, supporting and mentoring other engineers in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Workshop Final Assembly & Quality Assurance (Bolton Head Office)
- Mechanical Assembly: Precision-mount heavy-duty scissor arm stacks to chassis platforms using structural pins, bushes, and high-tensile fasteners.
- Hydraulic Systems Integration: Route and connect high-pressure hydraulic hoses, cylinders, power packs, pumps, and valves safely and securely.
- Electrical Integration: Wire main control boxes, limit switches, user joysticks, battery banks, secondary controls, and emergency stop systems.
- Technical Blueprint Reading: Accurately interpret complex engineering drawings, hydraulic schematics, and electrical wiring diagrams.
- Quality & Testing: Inspect critical torque specifications, check fluid levels, and conduct initial functional and load testing before installation sign-off.
- Field Service, Maintenance & Field Operations
- Scissor Lift Maintenance & Repair: Deliver scheduled planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and rapid-response emergency breakdown repairs at client sites.
- Diagnostics & Fault-Finding: Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults efficiently to minimise client downtime.
- Technical Mentorship: Act as a senior technical resource, supporting, guiding, and sharing knowledge with fellow field engineers facing challenging site issues.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to manufacturing and site-specific safety regulations, ensuring safe isolation practices and robust risk management.
Candidate Profile & Qualifications
Experience & Background:
- Proven track record as a Final Assembly Technician, Field Service Engineer, or Mechanical/Electrical Fitter within the heavy machinery or materials handling sector.
- Direct experience working with scissor lifts, dock levellers, or powered access platforms (MEWPs) is highly advantageous.
Technical Skills:
- Strong multi-skilled engineering background encompassing mechanical assembly, fluid hydraulics, and industrial electrical controls.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting structural engineering drawings and multi-system schematics.
- Competent in safe diagnostic testing of high-pressure fluid systems and low/medium voltage control wiring.
Personal Attributes:
- High attention to detail with a commitment to build-quality and operational safety.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical solutions to customers and junior colleagues.
- Adaptable, self-motivated, and comfortable splitting time between a production workshop and client site environments.
- Holds a valid, clean UK driving licence.

Pay: From £40,000.00 per year
