Sowerbys Holiday Cottages Bookkeeper – based in Burnham Market

Due to retirement Sowerbys Holiday Cottages have a vacancy for a meticulous and organised Bookkeeper to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and supporting the company's accounting functions. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a keen eye for detail and a solid understanding of accounting principles to contribute to our company's financial health.

Duties

Manage and record all financial transactions using a mix of manual and accounting software.
Process accounts payable and receivable efficiently and accurately
Reconcile bank statements and ensure all financial data is up-to-date
Prepare all information as requested by accountants for annual accounts
Complete the quarterly VAT returns
Prepare financial reports and statements as required by management
Maintain organised and secure financial records in compliance with company policies and legal requirements
Be proficient in SuperControl the company's booking system
Work closely with the office team giving advice where necessary

Skills

Proven experience with Xero accounting software
Strong understanding and experience of bookkeeping principles and practices
Proficiency in managing accounts payable and receivable processes
Experienced in submitting VAT returns
Excellent organisational skills with high attention to detail
Ability to work independently whilst maintaining accuracy under pressure
Good communication skills, both written and verbal
Familiarity with basic payroll processing is advantageous but not essential
This role requires a dedicated professional who values precision, organisation, and confidentiality.

This position may be full-time (40 hours per week) or part-time (32 hours per week) with some flexibility regarding working hours. Normally office hours are 9am to 5pm and may include 1 or 2 Saturdays per month.
