Stores Operative
We are seeking a proactive and organised Stores Operative to support the efficient operation of our Stores and Supply Chain function. This role is responsible for ensuring the accurate control of inventory, the timely receipt and issue of materials, and maintaining an organised warehouse environment to support production and customer deliveries.
Working closely with Purchasing, Production, Project Management and suppliers, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring materials are available when required, stock records remain accurate and supply chain issues are resolved quickly. This is a hands-on role that combines administrative responsibilities with warehouse activities, requiring excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills and a proactive approach to problem solving.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced engineering and manufacturing environment, taking ownership of stock accuracy, warehouse organisation and supplier communication while continually looking for opportunities to improve processes and support operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain accurate records of all stock movements, including goods received, dispatches, returns, stock transfers and inventory adjustments.
- Receive, inspect and book in deliveries, ensuring all goods are checked against purchase orders and any discrepancies, damages or shortages are reported promptly.
- Pick, kit and prepare parts for production, assembly and customer orders, ensuring the correct components are issued on time.
- Carry out regular cycle counts and stock takes to maintain accurate inventory records and investigate any stock discrepancies.
- Monitor inventory levels and proactively identify potential shortages, escalating issues to relevant departments to minimise disruption to production.
- Liaise with suppliers to chase outstanding orders, obtain delivery updates and resolve supply issues to ensure material availability.
- Work closely with Purchasing, Production, Design and Project Management teams to ensure materials are available when required and communicate any risks to delivery schedules.
- Ensure all stock is correctly labelled, stored and organised within the warehouse, maintaining an efficient layout and clear stock identification.
- Take ownership of warehouse housekeeping, ensuring storage areas remain clean, tidy, safe and organised in accordance with company standards.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve warehouse layout, stock control processes and inventory accuracy.
- Maintain strong working relationships with suppliers, couriers and internal stakeholders to support an efficient supply chain.
- Operate material handling equipment, including forklifts (where authorised), in accordance with health and safety procedures.
- Comply with all company Health & Safety policies and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the management team.
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience in a Stores Administrator, Stores Person, Goods In/Goods Out or Warehouse Operative role
- Good understanding of stock control and inventory management processes.
- Experience using ERP/MRP or inventory management systems preferred.
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with suppliers and internal departments.
- Able to prioritise workload and work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Proactive approach to problem solving and identifying stock or supply issues before they impact production.
- Basic computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
- Counterbalance Forklift Licence preferred (or willingness to undertake training).
- Full UK driving licence desirable.
