Job Description: Practice Receptionist

Responsible to: Practice Manager

Accountable to: The General Practitioners in the Practice

Part time role available.

We are looking to recruit a practice receptionist to join our busy, friendly team at our main site in Woodhall Spa and branch site, Bardney Surgery.

The successful applicant must be flexible and available to cover staff illness and annual leave, when required.

The role is part time (no weekends) for 16 hours a week; Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. Prior receptionist experience desirable but not essential.

Familiarity with computers is a priority. A current driving licence is essential as the successful applicant will be travelling to both sites, Woodhall and Bardney Surgery.

Reception Duties

1. Greet all patients on arrival.

2. Answer the telephone dealing with or redirecting enquiries.

3. Use the digital consultation tool to deal with patient queries and requests received online.

4. Signposting patients to the appropraite service.

5. Make new and follow-up appointments for patients.

6. Accept messages for the Doctors and other staff.

7. Deal with requests for repeat prescriptions.

8. Take the details of new patients wishing to join the surgery – following practice protocol

9. Health and safety awareness (eg. Handling samples)

10. Collecting monies from patients for prescriptions (where appropriate) and for non-NHS services.

11. On rare occasions, if no admin staff available, open mail and distribute as appropriate.

12. Process correspondence, both paper and electronic, scanning them into the clinical computer system.

13. Prepare computerised repeat prescriptions following practice protocol and set out for verification and signature of doctor.

1. Friendly and approachable.

2. Computer skills essential.

3. Good face to face and telephone communication skills.

4. Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload.

5. Common sense.

6. Flexible team player.

7. Ability to deal with stressed and agitated patients.
