The Quality Product Analysis Specialist plays a critical role within the Technical & Quality Centre by conducting in-depth inspections, diagnostic testing, and root cause analysis of returned automotive components.
This position ensures that warranty claims are assessed accurately and consistently while supporting overall product quality, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Working across a broad range of systems—including turbochargers, braking components, suspension units, clutches, and rotating electrics (alternators and starters)—the specialist applies advanced mechanical and electrical expertise to determine failure causes, verify product performance against factory specifications, and differentiate between manufacturing defects and usage-related issues.
The role combines hands-on technical evaluation with detailed digital reporting and cross-functional collaboration. Using specialized testing equipment and precision measuring tools, the specialist generates comprehensive inspection reports, documents findings with photographic evidence, and supports warranty decision-making in alignment with company policies and regulatory standards.
Beyond technical capability, the position requires strong analytical thinking and a methodical, investigative mindset. The Quality Product Analysis Specialist acts as a key liaison between warranty administration, customer service, and manufacturing partners—clearly communicating technical findings to ensure timely and fair claim resolution.
This role is essential in safeguarding product integrity, improving quality performance, and maintaining customer confidence through accurate, data-driven analysis and professional technical expertise.
Core Responsibilities
- Component Inspection: Conduct detailed physical and functional inspections on a wide range of components including turbos, braking systems, suspension units, clutches, and rotating electrics (alternators/starters).
- Diagnostic Testing: Operate specialised test equipment (e.g., vacuum testers, electronic actuator testers, battery/alternator analysers, brake DTV machines, and brake caliper testers) to verify part performance against factory specifications.
- Root Cause Analysis: Investigate and determine the underlying cause of failure (e.g., carbon buildup, oil starvation, electrical surges, installation errors) to support warranty claim evaluations.
- Warranty Claim Assessment: Review and assess warranty claims in accordance with company policies, determining validity and identifying potential manufacturing or usage defects.
- Digital Reporting & Documentation: Utilise computer systems to log findings, upload digital photos of defects, generate professional inspection and warranty evaluation reports, and maintain accurate records for claim processing.
- Quality & Compliance: Maintain a clean, organised laboratory/testing environment ensuring all test equipment is in safe and calibrated working order. Ensure inspections comply with company standards and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Cross-Functional Communication: Collaborate closely with warranty administration, customer service, and re manufacturing teams to share findings, explain technical details, and support timely claim resolution.
Technical Skills & Knowledge (Hard Skills)
- Multi-System Mastery: Deep mechanical knowledge of modern vehicle and electronic systems.
- Electrical Proficiency: Ability to read electrical schematics and use multimetres or oscilloscopes to test rotating electrics and electronic sensors.
- Software Literacy: Comfortable with PC-based diagnostic software, CRM portals, warranty management systems, and standard office tools (e.g., Microsoft Word/Excel).
- Precision Measurement: Skilled with precision tools such as micrometres, vernier calipers, and dial indicators for checking tolerances and shaft play.
- Warranty & Compliance Knowledge: Understanding of warranty policies, claim processing procedures, and applicable regulatory standards.
Character Qualities & Professionalism (Soft Skills)
- Analytical Thinking: Logical, detective-like mindset adept at solving complex diagnostic puzzles that other technicians may overlook.
- Attention to Detail: Precision in inspecting fracture surfaces, wear patterns, and minute electrical deviations.
- Reliability & Punctuality: Strict adherence to schedules and deadlines, ensuring customer and warranty reports are delivered on time.
- Clear Communication: Ability to translate complex technical failures into clear, simple language for non-technical stakeholders, customers, and internal teams.
- Collaboration: Effective team player with proven ability to coordinate across departments for efficient warranty handling.
Desired Qualifications & Experience
- Proven Experience: Ideally 3–5 years as a senior technician or diagnostic specialist in a high-volume garage, remanufacturing environment, or warranty inspection role.
- Certification: Level 3 Automotive Technician qualification or equivalent (e.g., IMI or City & Guilds).
- Failure Analysis Training. Warranty Training: Experience or formal training related to warranty claim evaluation and processing preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Capacity to safely handle heavy components (e.g., alternators, brake discs) and stand for extended periods in a workshop or laboratory environment.
