Full job description

Overview
We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Quality Assurance Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and verifying processes, conducting audits, and supporting investigations to maintain the integrity of the site’s Quality Management System. The officer will work collaboratively across departments to identify and resolve non-conformances, prevent food safety risks, and drive continuous improvement. By performing routine checks, collecting samples, and maintaining accurate digital records, the role safeguards product quality and customer confidence while supporting the business in meeting BRCGS, HACCP, and legislative requirements.

General Responsibilities

Carrying out environmental swabbing and collection of samples for analytical testing best on the testing schedules
Verification of factory paperwork and filing
Conducting traceability assessments to plan and reporting on findings
Carrying out CCP verification activities to plan and reporting findings
Carrying out GMP audits with the area supervisor / manager reporting findings and grading score
Placing product on hold when required due to non-conformance or breech in specification also releasing product from hold when authorised to do so
Carrying out daily pre-production hygiene inspections and reporting on findings giving approval for lines and equipment to start
Report any document any non-conformance or deviation from specification to the relevant department managers promptly, working with the site teams to enable timely root cause investigation and preventative and corrective action
Carrying out factory audits to plan, reporting on findings, these audits include glass and hard plastic, fabrication, internal audits and process audits
Perform independent process and product control checks, verify that critical parameters and procedures are consistently followed
Maintain internal calibration checks of equipment to plan
Understand the implications of food safety failures and escalate any issues immediately to prevent risk to product integrity and consumer health.
Complete verification audits across all process systems and associated documentation using the site’s paperless system to maintain compliance and traceability.
Provide cover for key technical department tasks during staff absences, ensuring continuity of quality assurance activities.
Completing QA reports on request

Skills and Experience

Understanding of food safety standards, including HACCP with a minimum level 3 food safety and HACCP level 2 qualification
Experience working with high risk chilled ready to eat foods
Auditing experience and recognised auditing qualification
Effective time management and well organised
Proficiency in data recording, analysis, and using digital quality management systems.
Skilled in collecting product and environmental samples according to established protocols.
Capability to perform root cause analysis using structured problem-solving tools.
IT literacy, including familiarity with paperless systems and spreadsheets.
High attention to detail to ensure accuracy in checks, documentation, and reporting.
Proactive approach to identifying and preventing potential issues.
Problem solving capabilities
Effective communication skills for clear reporting and escalation of issues.
Collaborative mindset to work with cross-functional teams on investigations and improvements.
Adaptability to respond to changing priorities and cover technical tasks during absences.
Continuous improvement mindset to enhance food safety and quality systems.
