Sometimes, they just need someone who notices... someone who cares.

This role is about being that person.

Not just reacting when something goes wrong, but identifying concerns early, creating the right support, and ensuring every learner feels safe, included and able to succeed.

Because when the right support is in place, everything else follows.

The Role

The Designated Safeguarding Lead & ALN Officer plays a central role in ensuring the safety, wellbeing and inclusion of learners across the organisation.

You will act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead, responding to concerns, managing cases and working with external agencies where required. You will ensure safeguarding procedures are followed, records are accurate and interventions are timely and effective.

Alongside this, you will lead on Additional Learning Needs support. You will identify learners who require additional support, implement structured plans and work closely with tutors and stakeholders to ensure those learners can access and succeed in their training.

This is not a reactive role. It is proactive, structured and purposeful.

You will:

Support learners with additional needs such as autism, ADHD and learning difficulties
Coordinate individual support plans and monitor progress
Respond to safeguarding concerns with professionalism and urgency
Work with external agencies including social services and health professionals
Provide guidance and training to staff on safeguarding and inclusion
Ensure all records, documentation and processes are compliant and inspection ready

You will be working across teams, acting as the link between learners, staff, families and external support networks.

When this role is done well, learners stay engaged. Barriers are reduced. Outcomes improve.

It is about creating an environment where learners feel safe, supported and able to progress into employment and build a future.

Some learners will need reassurance. Some will need structure. Some will need intervention.

Your role is to ensure none of them are overlooked.

Because when a learner completes their programme, gains employment and moves forward with confidence, the support they received along the way is often the difference.

What You Will Bring

You will have experience working within safeguarding in an education or training environment and understand the responsibility that comes with the role.

You will be confident handling sensitive situations, maintaining confidentiality and making informed decisions under pressure.

You will also have experience or understanding of Additional Learning Needs and be comfortable supporting learners with a range of needs in both one to one and group settings.

You are calm, measured and professional. You communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders and are able to build trust quickly.

Most importantly, you are proactive. You do not wait for problems to escalate. You identify, act and follow through.

Essential Criteria

Experience working in education in a safeguarding role.

Understanding of safeguarding legislation and procedures.

Knowledge of ALN/SEN statutory guidance.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.

Organisational skills and attention to detail.

Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Experience in ALN/SEN coordination or support.

Desirable Criteria

Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 3 Safeguarding, SENCo accreditation, teaching or support qualification)

Knowledge or experience of working in a construction training environment.

Experience working with multi-agency partners

Experience supporting learners in vocational or work-based learning.

Knowledge of behaviour management techniques.

First Aid qualification.
